time frames of losing/gaining weight

Does anyone know how long it takes to actually gain or lose weight? If I eat 3500 cal over today, how long will that lb actually reflect in my weight? Or visa versa, if I lost 3500 calories today, how long before would it relfect in my weight? I have such a hard time believing that I would wake up tomorrow up and the weight be relfected. Is there an actually method to this or is every food/person different? I'm so glad to have found these message boards, so many people smarter than me here!
ETA: any one know how I can edit my title to actually spell it correctly? Thanks!

I would imagine it's different for everyone. I noticed for me it's usually maybe 2 days after? I will sometimes go on intense hikes over the weekend where I will burn about 2500 calories and I won't lose weight usually til 2 or 3 days later.0

Hmmm....I have noted this in passing but never really thought about it until I read this thread. I guess I've noticed about a 2 day lag as well. I am interested in seeing other people's replies!0

It usually takes me a couple days to catch up. I would guess it may be a little different for everyone. *shrug*0
