 I remember a popular guy in high school telling me my thighs were "thick". I asked him what in the world that meant, and whether it was a positive or negative!
My thighs are slimming down in amazing ways I never thought possible!! I contribute it to the gym machine I call the 'thigh master'. It's the nautilus machine where you push your legs out, or you change the set up and squeeze your legs back together. (If you don't have a gym, you can do the same action with side leg lefts, standing or sitting, and ankle weights as needed.)
Although I don't think it's made a huge difference on my thighs, I also use the elliptical and treadmill, which could be a big factor, I suppose.0 -
Lunges, pilates, and squats....amazing.0

I don't have much time between school and work. I'm actually typing this in a quick between class break!! As soon as school finishes I have to race to get to work:grumble: Then there's homework too I don't have time to run on a treadmill:grumble:0

To lose fat, you have to burn it, I'm sorry sweetie. To tone your thighs, do various forms of lunges and squats (sumo squats, side lunges, curtsy lunges, etc.). But that will tighten them, not eliminate any extra fat. I do squats whenever! When you go to the restroom, do a set of squats! when you're alone at work, do lunges down the hallway. You can fit it into anything, because it doesn't require special equipment.

Lundges and squats, lundges and squats, and more lundges and squats. Do them until you legs quiver and you don't think you will walk again. (For me, thats 4 sets of 30 lundges, and 4 sets of 30 squats, but I have built myself up to this). Walking up stairs is also great for the thighs and butt. However, like Megan said, you will also need to lose the bulky fat to truly slim down. I read somewhere on here that everyone stores their fat in different places. For you and I, its in our thighs... Since the fat in our thighs has been there longer then the other fat on our body, its more dense and therefore harder to get rid of. It will happen for us though. Just keep going!0

Dyslexic much?
I read that as CRUSTY LUNGES and simultaneously thought of Spongebob & the Crusty Crab, as well as EWWWWW-- what are those?!?    :bigsmile:0 -
If I can give a male perspective on this. Please do not let magazines dictate what is sexy. Most men prefer toned muscular legs not skinny tooth pick legs.
I saw a pic of the Spice girl who is married to DAvid Beckham and was grossed out by her skinny legs.
PS most of the fashion models have them toothpick legs too.0 -

OH! I hate the rub too! Those dang holes! Ruin the most comfy pairs of my jean collection, really ticks me off. I do the exact same thing....then they turn into my camping jeans.0 -
Thanks for the nominations. I did not post for that reason I just hate seeing people beat themselves up over a near impossible goal. Those pics of all these perfect people in the media are hard to obtain for those of us who hold down a 9 to 5er. They have trainers and get paid for there looks.
Thats is why we need to achieve the best we can be and go no further. It like that saying of passing on Mr. ALmost Perfect to find Mr. Perfect.
BTW I think it is the same for women as men when I say this..legs are the easiest body part to tone.
Good Luck.0 -

Totally agree.
The first part of me that is toning up with my workout program now is my legs.0 -

O honey, I know how you feel. The "chub rub" as I call it likes to move my shorts up into a tent (no matter how loose or tight. arrgh) and skirts?? Only if I have baby powder on hand. IN high school I made this way vampy tight skirt for halloween.....by the end of the day my legs had rubbed together and chafed so bad i was BRUISED.
But! I am noticing a huge change in my legs since working with free weights (once the pain wares off....oye!). Now if only my newly developed back fat and my always there tummy would melt away!!! :grumble:0 -
Chub-rub! LOL!!!   I have to remember that! I have new nickname for the top of my legs! Totally can relate. Been running a lot and ALWAYS wear leggings, but recently found out there is some kind of runner's cream you can use there if you are a runner (Think I am too self-conscious for this yet.)
Just keep remembering Dory from NEMO and changing the song to "Just keep running, just keep running, ...) :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:0 -

Monistat (sp?) makes this gel that turns into a powder that prevents the chub rub. As a thick-thighed girl myself, I own stock in this stuff! It's amazing!0 -

A friend of mine swears deodorant works the same. She puts it on her inner thighs in the summer.
Previously I always grabbed in the diaper bag for diaper rash cream to use. It takes out the sting of chub-rub!
Now that my kiddo is potty trained, I'd better get cracking on thinning out these thighs! I don't want to have to give up running!!

"Chub Rub!"
Oh my god I thought I was the only one!! I have such a hard time buying shorts to work out in!!! All loose shorts just ride right up in a horribly unsightly way if I try jogging - and there's no way on this earth I'm going to start wearing spandex anytime soon.0 -
I'm so self concious about my legs that I don't even own a pair of shorts! Seriously! My sister thinks I'm nuts, but I hate how they ride up and (oh Lord) how fat my knees look in them. I wear skirts sometimes, but never knew about that fancy cream to keep the chub rub at bay! I'm going to look for it tomorrow.... :happy:0

OMG! I hate that. My husband asks me why I dont wear skirts. Says he loves them on me. My response makes him laugh everytime. I tell him that my thighs stick together and I can not stand the feeling! There is some stuff that looks like deoderant but keeps you from chaffing. it is used by runners alot. I walked a marathon last year at this time, I used it where the armpits and the arms rub and in the thigh area. it works wonders!!!!
That is one of my top goals, to be able to wear a skir and not have my inner thighs get stuck to one another!!!!  :sad:0 -
If you are wearing dresses or skirts - spanx are nice too.... :flowerforyou:0

O ditto!! I actually will stand and get my feet close enough together before my thighs touch. I kinda measure it on the tile in the bathroom. lol....:embarassed:
My mother always gave me baby powder to put on the chub rub.....it makes a huge mess!!! (Think black skirt and baby powder......ugh) I will have to try the deoderant and other things.....especially once my pencil skirts start fitting again!! :drinker:0 -

Yes!! thanks to spanx I was able to fit into a pair of pants for an interview. I do not suggest sitting in them for too long though! I think of that episode of Friends where Ross is wearing the leather pants and they won't go back on every time I'm putting those dang things on! :laugh:0
