My sodium is crazy high. WHat foods are good for low sodium? I eat canned tuna, but the rest is turkey meat or chicken or protein powder.... help? I'm also working on drinking more water...
I haven't been able to lose weight in over ten years.... I have at least 56 lbs to lose and I'm 26.

Hi Rachel!
Okay I did a bit of searching and found this site that should be helpful. Don't give up and keep going at it!

This one is pretty interesting to! And says that your canned tuna has 300 mg of sodium, tuna is good for you but if your watching your sodium you might want to cut back and eat fresh baked fish instead.

I don't like water either and instead make iced green tea from Lipton tea bags, add a 1/2 cup of organic honey. It's sweet tea and it's green tea so it has lots of antioxidants and gives you energy. Hope this helps you out. Feel free to add me if you would like a friend for support.0 -
I have found that pretty much anything that is packaged these days has a lot of sodium due to the preservatives companies use. I have been having the same problem lately as well. I try to eat "whole" foods and try to avoid eating too many prepacked items. Lunch meat is also full of sodium, although if you get fresh from the deli lunch meat it can be a bit lighter on the sodium and they have more low sodium options. Oh also, going out to eat is a big problem of mine and most places fill their dishes full of sodium so you have to watch when you go out to eat as well! Hope this helps!0

Thank you all!0

haha! I'm terrible at jogging but I used to love it! Now it's just getting past the pulled calf muscle and shin splints I get only in my right leg. I'm guessing once I lose weight it'll be easier and less injury prone?0

Anything processed is HIGH Sodium. If you are eating turkey or chicken that is processed it has sodium. Look at all the foods you are eating, milk, cheese, etc. Drink a lot of water, to flush out your body of the sodium
Rinse out any canned foods, this will reduce the sodium in them. Frozen foods have lots of sodium too.
Hope this helps, good luck.0 -
I see you're working toward your MBA -- congrats! But between microwave dinners, canned soup and catered receptions, all with strange sleep and stress patterns, it can be a nutritional nightmare!
If the turkey and chicken you're eating is lunch meat, try hitting the deli counter instead of the pre-packaged aisle. They usually have a few reduced sodium options.
My favorite way to try to reduce sodium is to use other spices. For example, I like making my own french fries at home. It satisfies the craving, but I can use a real potato, olive oil and whatever spices I'd like (garlic, pepper, onion powder, chili powder, paprika, etc.), then I bake them (425 or 450 for I want to say 10 minutes a side?). Mixed spice blends probably have salt, so might be best to mix your own.
Other than that, it's a matter of turning packages backward on the grocery shelves and comparing the numbers. Sadly, it seems that the lower the calories and fat, the more they pour in sodium to make up for it. But we all have to find the balance that's right for us.0 -
Thank you! The only canned food I eat is the tuna, since it's so easy. I'll have to ease up on that like all of you say. I use fresh chicken and I'm getting used to the taste of tilapia (but I buy it frozen....). I do have bad stress and sleep patterns right now! I'm also always hungry and grumpy and tired... I'm guessing that's my body trying to get used to the calorie deficiet?0

You get them because youre shin muscles are weak.......but it goes away with time!0 -
