ok so I bought a timex watch with a heart rate monitor And used it during my 50 minute step work out.... I have read mixed reviews on here... A lot of people say only the chest strap monitor is accurate but I figure this must be better than nothing... I reread my heart rate after every track and it estimated that I burned almost 900 calories! I was just using the myfitnesspal recommendations before which were much less... 550 or so... Thoughts on this?

It all depends on how much you weigh. I am still very heavy at 218 and I have burned close to that doing zumba classes and step classes. I have a polar HRM. So if you are heavier and kept your heart rate up for 50 mins it was probably a decent measurement. Maybe subtract 100 calories that you would burn anyway...

They are very inaccurate. Timex is a good watch, but it isnt a good HRM. Return it, and take that money to buy a HRM with a chest strap.
And yes, you could possibly burn that much in step class if you were really working it. I sometimes burn upwards of 800 calories in Zumba!

I have a Polar hrm with the chest strap and I always burn more than mfp says I should. I like it much better!! LOL Trust your hrm over mfp. MFP is just a guesstimate based on your weight. My hrm takes in my height, weight, age, bmi etc.
