NSV - Getting to the Top of the Hill

Right outside my front door I have a challenge. A big steep challenge!

It's a hill.

The sidewalk only goes half way up the road - because that's where the houses stop, but also because you have to be crazy to want to walk up it. Or so I thought!

I decided to make it the start of one of my walking routes - and, the first time I tried it, I was a sweaty, wheezing mess by the time I was half-way up. I had to stop for a breather.

That was about 10 weeks ago. It took me about an hour to do the full 2.4 mile route.

This evening I did the walk again (about the 6th or 7th time) in my personal best time of 37.5 minutes. I climbed the first (steepest) 0.2 mile stretch of the hill in less than 4 minutes, without stopping. Sure, I was breathing pretty hard - but it was so much easier.

Here's a graph that shows the elevation change in the walk (courtesy of MapMyFITNESS.com)

Awesome! Lots of hills in my town too, and now that the weather's nice and it's lighter later, I really have no excuses! Good on you and thanks for the motivation! (Now if someone could teach my dog to walk IN A STRAIGHT LINE AT MY SIDE, he could come too...)

Realized I was WAY behind my personal best on my walk today - so I jogged the last up-hill part.
