My doctor advised me today that I probably need to reduce my calories under the 1450 that MyFitnessPal set for me to around ~1200. I am 31 years old and need to lose 50 lbs to be at my goal weight. Should I reduce to this amount or find a "happy medium"? Help!!!

Given your ticker stats and your doctor's knowledge about you, I'd listen to the doctor. Good luck!

I have heard that to be in the weight loss zone you need to eat between 1100 and 1200 calories per day. The amount of calories you need depends on your height and current weight. You could give both options a try and see what works best for you.

For me personally...I tried 1200 calories and I stopped losing weight. I was doing 1200 and NOT eating back my exercise calories. My weight loss came to an abrupt halt! My dietician had me raise it to 1400 calories and start eating my exercise calories and now I am losing at a rate of 1-2 pounds a week. I have lost 41 pounds in 16 weeks. 1200 is the very minimum you should eat. Yes, you might lose faster eating fewer calories at first, but not eating enough will slow down your metabolism. Listen to your body. If 1200 calories is not enough...your body will tell you. When I was eating 1200 I was lightheaded and dizzy.
