Biggest Loser Finale

I thought I heard Jay say something like 8 months altogether. That would be 19 weeks from week 1 to week 20, then another 3+ months? Maybe I heard wrong.0

personally, I'm a fan of the stories, but I STILL think they don't stress enough the fact that these people are in extremely special situations and their weight loss is neither the average nor is it to be expected under every day life conditions. I know they write a blurb at the end in big black and white, but that's not good enough IMHO. They should take a minute and have either the contestants or better yet the trainers, even better, that doctor they have all the time, come on and explain the extreme measures that these people take. And WHY they can take them in relative safety. It's important that people know that unless you are under doctor's supervision, and able to work out 6 to 8 hours a day, and that there's no way joe schmoe is going to be able to lose 15 or 20 or 30 lbs in a week, no matter how big they start out. And that these people are being monitored and given the correct foods to choose from. Which doesn't eliminate the possibility of making bad choices, but it limits it.
this is ESPECIALLY true for when they near the end and are still losing 2 and 3 and 4 lbs a week. At this point they are being essentially unhealthy IMHO. And that's because this is a game with a prize at the end. Regular people trying to lose weight shouldn't be thinking this way, they should be ramping DOWN their weight loss attempts in order to gradually ease their way into maintenance. Similar to slowing down your car at a red light instead of driving right up to it at 30 mph and slamming on the breaks 5 feet from it.
I totally agree with this too and wanted to add that all the weight loss being shown isdone in what is actually (when you look at the big picture), a very short amount of time for that much weight. Slow and steady is much more healthy and those who go slower tend to keep the weight off longer if not for good. I think all of this should be referenced at some point on EVERY episode (and not just the black and white blurb at the end) for those who may tune in part way through or just once or twice. I would love to see the warnings like this take thetime that they use for the added "suspense" time they use to pop the weight numbers around before showing the real weight at each weigh in. That drives me crazy. It doesn't build suspense ... it's just annoying. Those minutes could be much better spent!0 -
I noticed when they went to NZ they flashed a screen of their flight. I paused it and it had a date. The show was 2 months behind almost to the day. So, they essentially have 8 weeks or so at home. I really wish they do would a "behind the scenes" book or show. I know Jillian mentioned last season that the weigh ins take about 2 hours! I just wish they would stop that damn scale from beeping for 10 seconds and show the darn weight!
I read an article just today that explained that Rulon was not eligible for the at home prize but was invited to attend (he apparently didn't respond). But the article did link his facebook page and he looks great. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Rulon-Gardner/43082475977
Overall I thought this was a really decent season. I loved Hannah & Olivia and Irene too. They all looked great.
And who didn't love Bob jumping off the building?!!!! Even Jillian cussing all the way down was pretty darn funny.0 -
I agree - Anna Kournikova could never replace Jillian first of all, not sure if anyone can, but thats just me, I love her and Bob. But I think Anna is way to skinny, I mean way too skinny. I thought she might break a leg just by standing on it. That does not seem healthy at all, Jillian and Cara are skinny, but have muscle tone and a shape, even for being so tiny as they both are. Anna just looks like a stick with arms and legs. For an athlete she looks more like an anorexic model. I not think she is going to send a good visual message from the show, can't judge her skills yet for helping the contestants, but I think the Biggest Loser missed the mark on this one for sure.0

glad you bring up the biggest loser...i'm a huge fan and so proud of all them! but derails the normal joes like us when i don't see more than 2 lbs in any given week! T.V rocks!
I love it to, and if I could work out with a personal trainer for 6 to 8 hours a day I would be drop the pounds like crazy. I have to remind myself that the contestants working out all day, that is their 'job' on the ranch.
I am happy with my 1 to 2 lbs a week. I want to do it right and hopefully not have a huge amount of excess skin at the end to have to deal with.0 -
First of all, I absolutely love this show.
However, I think sometimes some of the important things get lost in how they present what's actually happening.
I was a little upset when I found out that Hannah and Olivia are both over 5'9" (Olivia is 5'10") -- they are really close to being considered underweight. Is anyone else troubled by the fact that this weight loss competition seems to trump the idea of healthy lifestyle?0 -
I was wondering that too, why didn't Rulon come to the finale???
I googled Rulon's name b/c I too was curious as to why he wasn't there....I thought maybe b/c he "quit" they wouldn't allow him back. But that wasn't the case. Turns out he'd had enough of the "game" and was happy with his success and didn't feel that he needed to prove anything to anyone. He wanted to focus on his home life and his business. He's pretty much maintained his weightloss and from the articles I read they say he's doingn well!!
I wasn't dissapointed with Kaylee - she's HUMAN, I wasn't shocked either. There is something way deeper to gaining weight then just unehealthy eating, it has a lot to do with emotional baggage, not dealing with stress the right way, and trying to protect yourself from being hurt. She had such a wall up and I don't think it would have mattered what her trainers did or said it wasn't going to come down.
As much as this journey is about calories in versus calories out - its also about "What got us here in the first place?" What about our past have we not dealt with, What are we trying to protect ourselves from??
And realizing that losing weight is NOT going to make us happy b/c if you get to your goal weight and your NOT instantly HAPPIER then what? It's just as much an emotional journey as it is a physical one! And believe me, I know it's not easy dealing with all the baggage that you stuffed deep down inside with food.....but it's worth it!!!
I'm sure going to miss Jillian b/c out of all the trainers she tries to get the emotional crap out of the contestants the most! Not sure how little Miss Tennis star is going to do in that department! (don't get me wrong I LOVE BOB, and he does this too to some extent - but Jillian is so much fiestier at it!!)0 -

I figured they must be pretty tall girls when they looked like they'd hit their ideal weights around 170 - 160 Hopefully they even out once all the hoopla is over!!!
And I love the show too, but I take it all with a grain of salt. They are trying to make good television.
The show is great for shock value and showing people that it is possible to lose weight no matter where your starting from..... But it's also about product placement, amazing numbers on the scale and game play. Drives me crazy when contestants are 16 or so weeks in and still pulling off 4 to 5 pounds a week and seeming dissapointed in it!0
