Breastfeeding & pumping to donate milk

I used to pump & donate milk to a friend of mine but haven't for a few months. She no longer needs the milk. I have another friend who has twins & needs milk so I am going to start pumping for her. My 1 year old still nurses alot. He nurses more like a 5 or 6 month old instead of a 1 year old. I give myself an extra 300 calories per day just for nursing my baby. Do you think I need to increase that since I'm pumping now too? I know I have read that breastfeeding an infant burns around 500 calories per day & since I'll be feeding 2 babies, I was thinking about giving myself an extra 500 instead of the 300 I've been doing.

    yes.... pumping on top of breastfeeding your own baby = WAY more calories burned!! What an amazing gift to give your friend's child!!! 500 it is!!

    500 is the average for most women, but if you know how much you are pumping, 1 oz breastmilk = 20 calories burned. And you can log breastfeeding as a food, it is negative calories to equal out your calorie needs. :)

    I think I remember reading in What To Expect When You're Expecting that you should eat more caloires if you are breastfeeding multipuls, so I would say 500 is fair!
