DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!
Confront your fear and DO IT! Crossing the finish line is a feeling unlike any other! You'll never regret doing it. You'll only regret not doing it.0 -
DO IT! I did my first one two weekends ago and it was AMAZING! I had to walk the hills, but I still finished at a 12 minute mile pace which made me happy since I really only trained seriously for about 3 weeks!0

Good thing about a 5k, its timed, but just finishing is an accomplishment. I did my first one in Nov and the cheering from the crowd of everyone who finished, I felt like a winner. Set a personal goal, but just get out there and do it!0

Lets break it down to make it sound better instead of 5K just say 3.1 miles roughly, I promise you even if you have to walk you can finish it.0

Find an event and preregister---once you spend the money you won't be as likely to back out (active.com is a good source for local events if you don't know of one). GOOD LUCK!0

I just did my first one at the beginning of this month and I was scared too!! Don't worry though, it's not as bad as you think it's going to be
Just run at your own pace and that's all that matters. Good luck!

I too want to do a 5k. I am going to start the C25K very soon. 9 weeks sounds like a short time to be ready for this but I'm going to give it my all. I too am nervous about this but know deep down that I can do it.0

Just go for it! Have confindence in yourself and know that you can do this!!!0

You'll never regret doing it. You'll only regret not doing it.
That's a great quote
Ive just been watching an episode of The Biggest Loser and they held a 5k run in a local community with past winners from The Biggest Loser seasons. And the motto of the race was:
"Don't compete, just complete"
and there were people who took part in the race who were over 400lbs. And no matter how long it took them they finished the race and it proved to them that they can't be scared to try it ever again because they've already shown to themselves that they can do it.
Get out and do the 5k and be proud of yourself when you cross the finish line and wonder why you were so scared to do it in the first place? You know you are ready0 -
Do it!!!!! I am NOT a great runner, and when I run through my neighborhood, I walk in between the running loops. When competing in a 5k, the adrenaline rush keeps me motivated. I have done 2 5ks now, and have ran the entire way, keeping a steady pace both times. Pick a target of someone ahead of you and tell yourself that is who you need to pass next. Once you start passing people, it is the best feeling and you'll want to keep going! And don't worry if you can't make it the whole way running, I've seen many people have to walk. Either way, once you cross the finish line you will feel so accomplished! Good luck!0

I'm doing exactly the same thing, and I'm on week four. Since we're building up slowly, it really seems very achievable, and it's going to feel so GREAT to really DO it! It's all about cracking those new goals every time, which you've been doing if you're on week three! Great job, keep it up! We can give each other a high-five at the finish line!0

I ran my very first 5k about 3 months, ago , only because my good friend is a avid runner and asked me to join her. I only had a couple of weeks to prepare, even though Im very active and go to the gym 8 plus hrs a week, I still am not a runner. It was nothing like I imagined, I thought I was going to be the only one there to finish last since I had never run one, it was awesome, I finished it in about 30 minutes and was still ahead of half the people. The atmoshere was awesome, young, old. some jogging, some walking. I loved it!! Still don't like running, but I did feel like I accomplished something. I did have to stop twice for about ten seconds!! My wonderful friend has asked me to participate in another race on June 4th, again only a couple of weeks to prepare, because I haven't been running since the last race. Oh well here I go again..... I'm hoping that this time I will not have to stop!! No fear and u can do it!! It's a amazing feelin of accomplishment and it's all in good fun!!!0

I am doing my 1st 5k this weekend. My goal is just to finish, whether it be walking, running, or a little of both. You can do it. Just hang in there! Btw, I never thought I would ever run. I started the c25k and it has helped me tremendously. I am 5'3" with very short legs. I was not given a runner's body at all! lol I have learned to power through it. You have a lot of support here. Let's us know how it goes for you.0

I went through C25K earlier this year and ran my first 5K. Don't think about it, just do it. It was such a satisfying feeling to complete it!0

You should definetely do it! I wanted to do it and instead of thinking about it, I just signed myself up for a race in July. That gives me plenty of time to train and be ready for it. If I hadn't registered already, I would probably still be sitting around thinking about it. You can' do it too, dont' be scared!
Best of luck to you!

I just ran my first one last weekend and here's what I wrote about it: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/spackham
I am so glad I did it! You are competing with yourself so you just want to get your own time. I only run on a treadmill 2-3 times a week for 30-60 mins and that is enough to do a 5k. You can do it. I felt nervous until I finished the race. I think I will be nervous when I do one again. It's just racing jitters.0 -
I ran one last night just for kicks.......REMEMBER if you can run 2 the last one you will run on pure adrenaline!!! I remember my first 8k last year Training I only ran at most 3 miles.......the other 2 I ran on pure adrenaline in that whole enviroment with all hose people etc..........
DO IT! you will be hooked! and the feeling after ward is awesome!!!!0
