Still need caloric deficit? I'm at a weight that I feel is perfectly healthy for my height and build, yet I still would like to tone my midsection. I have muscle there; my core strength is good. The muscle is still covered by a thin film of blubber, however. :P

Do I need to do one thing at a time, finish removing all the fat I want to make go away, and then pull my calories up to put a bit of muscle back on? Or can I up my calories to a "maintenance" level and rely on exercise to melt off the remaining bit of flab? My brain is telling me it's going to be prohibitively difficult to burn off the rest of the fat I want to lose in a reasonable time frame unless I continue to operate at a caloric deficit. Is it correct?

When I started working on toning - I found I need to up to my calories. As you build muscle and burn the fat, you'll burn more calories. So, you may find you need to raise them. :)

And I'm losing fat and building muscle with higher calories.
