I'm thinking about pulling a doctor into my corner to help with my weight management. Is there anyone who is/has done this? What are your thoughts about it? I'm wondering what exactly they do to help and how helpful it is. Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

That depends on the doctor. When I brought up the subject with mine he admitted that he only knew the basic of move more eat less. He admitted to being 25 pounds overweight himself, and said that he probably wasn't the best person to advise me. While the techs did the EKG and drew blood for the general physical blood tests, he made some phone calls. He brought back a short list of names and specialties. We crossed off the ones related to bariatric surgery (I wasn't interested in that route), and left the listings for the dietician and nutritionists. Between the doc, dietician and nutritionist we came up with my guidelines. At least he was honest and smart enough to know he didn't know enough!

A few years ago, my doctor expressed interest in helping me lose weight. She was great at my initial first meetings, but then never called to follow up on me and I gained back the weight.
With that, I think it's a great idea, but you may need to ask your doctor to follow up with you continually and help evaluate your progress, so you don't just give up like I did.
