i heard this tightens your stomach and makes you lose an inch around the middle within 20 days. Is this true? I really want to tighten my stomach and lose a few inches around my waist.

It's not the sucking in, it's when you tighten the muscles in the abdomen, it strengthens the core muscles a little but not as much as if you did actual core workouts.

There was a small thread eariler today on this. I do think there is some truth to it.

See inside thread for link to "Stomach Vacuum" explanation.

It will help your stomach muscles pull in more, but in itself will not really do anything to lose inches. To lose inches you need to diet and exercise to lose the fat. There is no such thing as spot reducing.

it's not a spot fat reduction, but i do believe it does tighten up the abdominal area. look into it.

THe thing with this, is ask yourself "what is my goal? improved health of a smaller waistline? Yeah I do believe the vacuum exercise works. The negative associations with high body fat levels still persist. It does strengthen the muscles, it helps at a muscular level, not really for the dangers of higher fat levels on the body. It does strengthen the core which in turn strengthens the lower back, which is good. But that's about it. This shouldn't be the method for reducing body fat. It is a beneficial abdominal exercise.

Definitely agree with asmcriminal. In fact, the article I linked to comes with a prerequisite that body fat percentage should already be relatively low: 12 to 15% (that would translate higher for women).

Indeed, it's no substitute for good diet exercise; but rather an additional exercise to help put some "finishing touches" on the midsection.
