From those that have experienced success using MFP, can anyone tell me how accurate this "Every Day" Calculation is? It tells me if I continue like this day, every day, Ill be down 15lbs in 5 weeks! What is everyones experience with this being solid? I dont want to set myself up for dissapointment right out of the schute!

Thanks in advance!

Mine isn't. It always has me losing more than I do.

I never really mind that number. The plain fact is that none of us do or eat the exact same thing every day and if we did it would probably slow our metabolism down. There's also so many other variables that it doesn't take into account.

I try my best not to use that number as a goal as I'd feel like I"m setting myself up for disappointment.

Don't depend on it. It's just a maybe thing. Just eat right and get a move on.

thats if you ate exactly what you ate and what you exercise every single day for the next 5 weeks, which is impossible. think its more of a gauging thing. i just like it when after i ate too much or exercised too much for what its supposed to say. makes me laugh.

I definately dont eat the same thing every day, but just wanted to be aware of possibly setting myself up for dissapointment. Im way under my total calories every day, work out every day...its bound to fall off right?
  • Mine changes daily. I don't even pay attention to it anymore.

It will tell you you exercised too much?

I haven't kept track of it - though I did write it down a few days. I don't think it's accurate, but so far most of mine have said I'd lose and I have been losing. That's all that matters to me.

I currently weigh 208, and the first day that thing said ". . . you would weigh 198.2" - under 200, I did a little dance.

It's basically saying, if you have that same calorie deficit every day for 5weeks you'd lose Xlbs. Just like saying if you eat 500calories under maintenance every day you 'should' lose 1lb a week. Same principle just showing you a little further out.

I don' rely on that number. If it goes up, I know I need to get myself back on track, if it's low I know I'm doing what I'm supposed too, and if it's ridiculously low, I know I need to make sure I'm eating enough for the amount of exercise I'm doing. :)

I agree. It's kind of a way to check and see if you're in the ballpark, but I wouldn't go by it too much.
Also, that's 3 lbs a week. That's a bit too much, I think. Eat a bit more. Even if you don't loose that fast, it'll be easier to maintain a more sensible diet in the long run, and healthier for your body.

trust me...5 weeks NEVER comes!!! It's a supposed 'warning' that you are not eating enough and will go into 'starvation mode'...show me someone on here starving....I think not!! I ignore it!! I'm on 1210cal/day + exercise about 250cal/day and if I eat all that I don't lose anything. I only need about 900 to 1000 to lose weight or maintain it.
    All the best :flowerforyou:

I think of it more as an educational tool. I don't think it's really intended to predict your success 5 weeks from today. It is just a really good feedback tool so that when you finish your diary and see the food and exercise choices you've made throughout the day, you get a feel of how that day's choices effect your mid-term results. I LOVE IT. It reinforces good choices and warns you about poor choices (if you compare the 5 week prediction to your actual goals).

My day is never constantly the same. Some days I eat a lot, some days I exercise a lot, and some days I'm just plain lazy. It's still fun to see what you might weigh in 5 weeks.

the only thing I use it for is a little boost that it is staying under 200lb all the time now!

although I have gone under 200lb, if I have drunk a lot of water or eaten etc by the evening it has crept back over the 200
looking forward to when it's gone for good!

Hi! i've been on MFP for 13 weeks. I have lost 14 lbs. For the most part, i have been right around the 1 lb lost per week goal, maybe closer to the 1.5 lbs lost per week goal and obviously lost an average of 1 lb per week. of course, lost of weeks i lose nothing, gain 1-2, and then other weeks i lose 1-4 lbs. up and down up and down up and down ;)

anyway, for me, it has been mostly accurate. i recently set my goal to losing 2 lbs per week, which is ok for me because i have a HIGH BMI. 8( so i'm hoping to start losing 1.5-2 lbs per week. we'll see.

    good luck!!!

just be sure you aren't eating too little, so it doesn't screw up your metabolism :)

i basically agree with everyone else that it's a kind of guess to keep you on track. i do think it's close though, like if i averaged what it has said everyday over 5 weeks, i think it would be really close :) it also only goes by calories, and other stuff like too much sodium etc could make you lose less.

I was wondering about this as well, so what I have started doing is keeping track in the foods note section. I type in what it says I should weigh in 5 weeks this way I can go back in 5 weeks to see how it's going. What I usually type for example: 150 in 5. I write down whatever it says each night (which currently is no where near 150 yet). It varies but I think this will give me an idea of what's working for me and what's not. It's my unscientific study!

I have been keeping track of the numbers for the last several weeks and I just add up the numbers every 7 days to get an average. It's been exactly 5 weeks since I started and it said on May 23rd I'd weigh 206.5, and that's exactly what I weigh. It's only the first time I've taken the average though. Next week, May 30th, it's suppose to be 203.6. I'll check back in with you and let you know if that's right.

I use it more as a motivational guideline than anything else. If I stick to my guns and I am determined I could reach that number in 5 weeks, but if I work a bit harder, burn more calories, I might hit that number early. However the number changes so I wrote down the number from yesterday and that is my goal. Right now I am at 228.8 and I am hoping to beat 218.8 by the end of June.

Mine isn't at all. It gives me the same "you'll be xxx in 5 weeks" every day, and every day i eat like the day before.

Mine has me losing about 17lbs in 5 weeks, it's said it for a couple days, but I really don't take that number to seriously because it seems unrealistic.to lose over 3lbs every week for 5 weeks. I can still hope though :)

I know it's probably not accurate, but it does encourage me. I can't wait until that number goes into ONEderland.
