MFP Goal Weights

How did you pick your MFP goal weight? This question is for both those who are at goal, and for those of us who are still trying to get there!

Is it the absolute weight you want to get to? Is it a "buffer" weight so that you could gain a couple of pounds and still feel good? Is it a specific BMI / round number? Is it a weight you were before you gained weight? Do you intend to lose more weight than your MFP goal currently states, and are just using it as a kind of milestone?

As an aside, my personal Goal Weight (both long term and MFP wise) is 108, this is 7stone 10 in UK pounds and I've picked it because it gives me 4lbs "buffer room" - for holidays, bad weeks etc. because I have 8stone (112) in my head as the weight I don't want to exceed in the future. I'm really short (5'0'') with small bone structure, so it's still in the healthy BMI range for me. I'll have lost around 100lbs to get there, and because my journey feels so long, I'm very tempted to change my MFP goal weight to 128lbs, because that's where my BMI goes into the *normal* range, and then I can focus on losing the last 20lbs of *vanity* weight if you will.

So yes, how did you pick your MFP goal weight, and is it a true reflection of where you want to be long term?

I started with a goal of a "toned 10 stone", so my focus was on being healthy and a good shape first and foremost.

When I'd reached that I dropped it to 135 lbs to bring me to the healthy bmi level.

I'm kinda happy at this level, and have set myself a range of 9 stone 5 to 9 stone 12 as a maintenance range. I fit into a UK size 10 and that feels great. I'm 5 foot 2.

    What height are you?

I'm 5'0'', so 108 puts me over 21 BMI. I'm currently 10 stone and a UK size 14 dead on, grr to my small bone structure XD I have to say it irks me a little when I see people at my weight looking awesome when I still look so tubby!

In my adult life, my weight has ranged from 103 to 186. My goal weight is 130, which is the time when I looked and felt the best.

I'm using the US military weight standards. Depending on the branch, the maximum weight allowance for women of my height (5'2") and age (26) ranges from 135 to 146. I have not yet decided which branch I want to enlist in, so I am going with the lowest of 135. Also, my heaviest in high school was 125, so I figure tacking on an extra 10 lbs. to that will do. :)

I was aiming for healthy bmi, im there now but decided to lower goal to 150lb im 1lb away and now tempted to lose more but getting told ill look to gaunt if i lose more, so might just focus on toning, think 150 will be ok seeing at one point i was 286lb, will know better once i toned up :)

Mine is 140lbs (10st) I'm 5'9 and heavy boned and broad so even when I was 10.5st several years ago, I never looked truly slim.

I'd settle at 10.5st but idealy I want to be 10. Christ I'd be happy with 12 right now though!!!

Ultimate MFP goal is def 10st though

Im 5'7 and 144 at the mo. (Which is the weigh I first decided I wanted to be (orginally 154). But now Im here I have reduced my goal to 140 (10st) as I dont feel alot different and not many people can tell Ive lost weight.

I also want to tone up so think i going to get a new DVD and weights to tone.

My friend says I shouldnt lose anymore but think she is saying that as she want to lose weight and its not happening.

At the mo uk size 12 are a little tight on my bum - so 4lb might make them fit well.

I suppose my main aim is to be a good size 12.

I keep changing my goal, but really I don't think I'll be sure until I lose some more kg and see how I look and feel.
My initial goal was to lose 20kg to get to 72kg, but after I actually started losing I decided to challenge myself and go for 30kg loss and goal of 62. This would put me in the middle of the healthy BMI range.
I'm now 77kg and beginning to think that another 15 kg is just too much to lose. My face is already a lot thinner (and more wrinkles are evident) so I think low 60's would look very gaunt.
So, for now I'm planning to head to 70kg, evaluate, probably go to 67 to et to "healthy BMI weight" but may come back to around 70 is that seems too low.
So, what I'm basically saying in a whole lot of words is that it is not fixed!

I chose a goal weight of 62kg (136 pounds) which is just in the healthy BMI for my height of 5'2. I think i'd like to go a little lower to have a buffer eventually, but at the moment it feels so far away that I don't want to be too ambitious! I would be so happy just to get under 70kg!!

My ultimate goal is 126 (9 stone) just because I've never been 9 stone anything! I might stop before then if I become happy with what I see in the mirror

My goal weight is a moving target. I picked a number in the middle of of the BMI to start with, but I'll adjust it depending upon how I look and feel when I get closer to the goal. When the belly fat is small enough, that will be my goal.

I chose a goal weight just under the top of the 'normal' BMI because as I am now teaching a lot of dance fitness I expect to have more muscle mass than when I was sedentary but thin, if you get my drift. Some of my fitness colleagues weigh WAY more than the charts say (I know a 10 stone UK size 8 five footer!) , so bear this in mind!

Thank you for posting this, especially as I hope to be a PT myself one day!
