Insanity Fitness Test - Enough Calories????

I have only eaten 386 calories so far today and have just 'attempted' my fitness test on Insanity - I've had to stop 4 exercises short of the end as I was feeling sick, dizzy, couldn't see properly, couldn't even stand up properly! I didn't expect to breeze through it, but I didn't think I'd be on the verge of a full blown coma!!!! Is this perhaps because my body wasn't really fuelled properly? I did have breakfast and I did have some lunch, but that was only 386 calories in total, should I have perhaps had more before I had started??? It was 2.30pm when I did it today and I was planning on usually doing my Insanity workouts during the morning, so I would have had even less calories because it will be before I've had any lunch!!!! I've got my protein drinks which I was planning on having after my workouts, but I can't have one now as I think I might just bring it all back up again!!!
Hope everyone is having a good day!! :flowerforyou:

Hi,
When i work out i find i cant manage it if i have eaten anything a few hours before hand.
If i go in the morning i have something small like a banana as you do need something but anything bigger & i end up either feeling sick or sluggish due to the food lying heavy on my stomach.
You could always try not eating at least 2-3hours before & see how that works for you but if it is the first time your doing it your body might need to work up to it......only a suggestion0 -
hmm, well only 368 calories by 2.30pm? Your body will be running on empty and so its not really suprising that the addition of exercise wasn't all that successful. Personally i try to get in the majority of my calories from breakfast and lunch, well i don't actually ahave a lunch break, just what i can get between dance classes, as i'm in full time dance training nutrition throughout the day is more important for me than the evenings. Take a look at my diary if you fancy0

Your blood sugar probably took a dive. I'd suggest something small and high in protein before-hand to prevent that. As long as you avoid the carbs, it shouldn't slow down your weight loss too much.0

Yes, you definitely are not eating enough calories! You should never eat less than your Basal Metabolic Rate. (There is a calculator for it in the tools on this site-go look at it! It will probably be 1200 or so depending on your weight and height) Eating less than that is very bad for your body and should only be done if you are morbidly obese and are in danger of having a heart attack/other health problems if you don't drastically cut calories and even it that case, it is usually done with a doctor knowing about it. Not only do calories power your bodily functions (and your workouts) but if you do not eat enough, your body will trick itself into thinking that you are starving and your metabolism will slow down. Because it doesn't know when your next meal will be, it will also try to store fat whenever it can as a natural instinct. Eat more calories in the form of good foods, especially whole grains (they have just about every vitamin and mineral naturally), non-starchy (starchy=corn/potatoes) vegetables (low calorie so you can eat just about as much as you want), and lean protein like poultry and fish. Just exercise to turn those calories into muscle and the more muscle you have, the more calories you can eat without them turning into fat. Last note: Please go have a snack before you pass out : )0

Thank you all - everything taken in! After a short break I managed to finish of the last of the exercises and actually felt very proud! Not sure how I am going to manage when I actually start the programme on Monday!
Will definately be trying to eat more calories. I find it really hard - I'm supposed to be eating 1220 calories a day, and I'm really struggling with that! I feel that I physically cannot eat anything more! I know that I will have to if I'm doing Insanity or I won't get through it!
Thanks for the advice guys :flowerforyou:0
