I finished day 4 level 1 of the shred last night and i am loving it, great burn and it's over before you know it. However i am getting really bad aches in my calfs and it's making doing the jumping jacks, skipping and bum kicks section really difficult. I was wondering if anyone had any tips to make this a little easier or if it gets easier with time and perserverance?
Thank you in advance.

it always aches after shredding... it always aches after excerise... Just make sure you stretch properly before and after... Its just your body's way of growing and toning etc... its all good0

yes, make sure you're getting a good stretch. I know JM says no static stretching before working out, but I think it helps me not to get cramps in my calfs. I stand against a wall with my toe up on the wall and stretch my calf really well then switch. It's almost as if you're walking through the wall, one foot flat on floor, the other propped up on the wall, then lean into the wall. That should get them stretched out really well. Good luck, and the soreness WILL get better. I'm half-way through level 2 right now and I don't have any continuous soreness anymore0

The cool down on the DVD is c***. Do not bother with it. Instead figure out a proper stretching routine. It might need up to 10 minutes but after I scrapped their rubbish idea of a cool down and did my own I have barely had a single pain. You can find all the relevant stretches through google to be honest and what I do is hold each one for 25 seconds, then extend the stretch further for 10 seconds.
Also consider doing a better, longer warm-up than they give. I do my cardio on the elliptical beforehand because I find going straight into weights seems too intense when my body isn't completely warm.
You will feel a bit of aching after starting a new level because new muscle groups get worked but it shouldn't really persist beyond a couple of days.0 -
Thank you for your comments, i was planning on doing 10 days of level 1 then one day rest (of only the dvd i would do something else like hula hoopoing or spinning or C25K etc) then do 10 days of level 2 and so on.
I will do more stretches and hope it gets easier! Thanks again0 -

I do do a longer cool down, i stretch for much longer than they do on the DVD. I heard that doing weights then cardio is good at burning fat, and mixing it up is good to confuse the body. I hope the stretches work on helping my calf muscles! I try to do some when i am brushing my teeth too.0 -
I definitely agree about the cool down, you need to do some proper calf stretchs etc.
To be honest I'm gining up on the shred as of today. I've done 7 or 8 days of each level and it has completely wrecked my knees. I left it for a few days and did L3 again today and nothing hurts except my knees - it's all those planks I think. Need to find something else to do!0 -

I should do this - I strap them when I ski, I'm usually ok with other exercise though.
Lots of planks and side planks, but to be honest, no one exercise was was bad as the press ups on circuit 1 level 1. I never managed the whole lot unmodified - good luck with the rest of the shred.0 -

I hate the press ups!! i can't do them AT ALL!! i'll be glad when they are over!
My friend (who is also a beauty therapist) massaged my legs and calfs last night and i went home to bed rather than do Day 5, i felt i needed to have a rest or i'll more damage than good. I'm back on it tonight but first i have spinning at the gym!
Hope everyone else is doing well! x0
