Is anyone from or been to las vegas? I'm going in July so any recommendations of stuff to do/places to eat/dress code etc would be really helpful.

Best is to eat in buffets. The Luxor has a pretty good one for breakfast and the Paris has a good one for lunch/diner

And the Caesar has the best galleries for shoping.

Forgot to mention, there is a pretty good italian restaurant at the 2nd floor of the Venitian :)

Just got back. Enjoy the buffets but walk everywhere and burn off those extra calories. Lots to see and do even if you don't gamble. The Cirque shows are great. The Beatles one at the Mirage is the best in my opinion. We also saw Penn & Teller and Carrot Top; both awesome and funny. P&T meet with everyone after the show just to say hi!

I like Paris for, breakfast, Ceasars for lunch or dinner, same for the Flamingo or Planet Hollywood. All buffets. The buffet at the Luxor was a little disappointing to me, again, just MHO. If you are into sushi, great all-sushi buffet at PH in the Miracle Mile shops: Todai restaurant. Better for lunch (cheaper) and the same stuff is served lunch and dinner for the most part.

If you like to walk/climb/explore, check our Red Rock Canyon. About 20 miles west of Vegas and beautiful scenery and lots of hiking trails.

Dress code is caual pretty much everywhere. Some people dress a little nicer to go to shows, but there are all kinds of dress everywhere. Check the weather before you go, it was unseasonably cool when we went and was in the 50s in the late evening morning and I only had one pair of long pants, no jacket, etc... Brrr.!

    Enjoy!

I was there about 2 months ago. It was a blast! I got there on a Mon at 8 PM and didnt leave until Wed at 6AM. I didnt sleep the entire time I was there and it was all one big blurr :) The place can be overwhelming at first but after walking up and down the strip you will figure out what to do. If your into "thrill" rides and all that go to the Stratosphere. Im a car nut so the Ferrari/Maserrati dealership at the Wynn was a must. Also food wise they have a deal for like $40 where you can hit up like 7 or so different buffets in 24 hours all you want. Well worth it. Of course not diet friendly. Window shopping at The Forum Shops (Caesars Palace) is cool. Too much money for my blood though. Dress code realy depends on what you do. If your just going to the casinos you can basically wear what you want. Nice dinners I would dress up and the same goes for the clubs and bars. Also if your into site seeing check out Red Rock. Its national park which is actually much nicer then I expected. I ended spending hours hiking there that day. Hungover and all.... I cant wait to go back.

Whatever you do stay away from Four Loko's. I made that mistake one night there. I now know why they are banned here......

Thanks everyone, it's great to hear some tips. So far we have a day trip to the Grand Canyon booked, tickets for the Cirque Elvis show and we are planning a vow renewal at The Graceland Chapel :)

Just went there this past January and had an amazing time! We stayed at the Excalibur - what a deal and nice too. So suggestion, we booked the 'regular' room and tried the $20 trick when we checked in and BAM, it worked! So you wrap a $20 around your credit card when checking in and say "do you have any complimentary upgrades available?" We got upgraded to a room with a view of the strip! It was awesome! Would have cost $30 more/night booking it prior.

We went to see Zumanity and Mystere when we were there - two Circque de Solei shows - they were both amazing! Try and see one if you can! We did a lot of walking around and window shopping - my eyes almost bugged out of my head when we went into the expensive stores like Prada, Gucci, etc.. holy cow!

One day we took the express bus to the Premium Outlet Mall, which was fun. Lots of cool stores! And then on the way back went to old Downtown - make sure you go there and hit the light show on Fremont Street - that's pretty cool!

Hmm... what else? Oh see the lions at MGM grand - they change them daily, so sometimes there are females and sometimes males - they're such beautiful animals! And then downstairs MGM you can participate in viewing a pilot tv show - takes about an hour and is free! You watch an actual CBS tv pilot and then provide your feedback about what you though. Neat!

I think I walked around with my mouth wide open the entire first day - so much to see and do! My sweetie had been there before, which helped us navigate around. Next time I want to go skydiving - they have the indoor skydiving there!

Hope that helps a little bit!

All of the above...and Mandalay Bay has a cool aquarium! Wear comfortable shoes, you do walk a lot. Make sure you get one of the hotel/casino players cards, and use it! I played mostly slot machines (held my own) and ended up with ALL our meals, a day at the spa with massages for both of us, 3 free shows and $600 in free play money, all covered by the points racked up on my card. It would have paid for the room, but we had pre paid for it.

If your day trip to the Canyon includes any air travel over the canyon, take some dramamine or anti nasea medication of some sort. My guy works on aircraft, has traveled all over the world in many different aircraft, and has never had a problem.... he had a problem over the canyon. All the up and down drafts got a bit choppy, and a few on the plane had to use bags.

    Enjoy!

Definitively check the weather. You will be getting there in summertime, and it's not unusual for temps of 110+ during the day, and not much better at night.

You will want to plan a few DAY- days. Most major hotels have a shopping mall. I don't mean a few stores, I mean a MALL. The mall at the Caesar's Palace is HUGE. The decor is really neat, and there are a few fountain shows. As suggested, there is a place called Red Rock. Even if you are NOT into hiking, the scenic drive is worth it. I happened to go on a slightly overcast day, and it was beautiful. Nearby, the Red Rock Casino has a very good buffet that is reasonably priced. Problem I have with buffets is that I want to eat a little of everything. Casinos OFF THE STRIP tend to be less expensive, and this one is excellent.

Vegas is a night city. It really comes alive when the sun goes down. If you are staying in the strip, you will want to walk outside and look at all the lights and free shows/displays. Water fountains in front of the Bellagio, Treasure Island puts on a pirate show. Downtown LV has the Freemont Street Experience, which can only best be appreciated at night. The casinos have different themes. Planet Hollywood has contemporary, top 40 music pumping in. The Hard Rock (off the strip) has ... Rock. My suggestion is to (start early) and walk through the entire strip. Much to admire.

Hoover Dam is also nearby. They have tours that take you down to the turbines. It's an awesome feat of engineering.

I tried to get my guy up on the Strat.... he does great in a plane or helo, but for some reason he doesn't like heights in or on a structure over 100 feet or so.... :ohwell: Funny thing is, our last room at Mandalay was on the 21st floor and over looked all the pools...he had no problem looking out the windows then...
