Just looking over my food diary - as you do!!! I have an egg at least once a day and in some cases twice aday!! In the back of my mind I have something my Grandma used to say that you shouldn't eat more than 3 a week?
Should I be cutting back my egg intake? I love having an egg for breakfast - really fills me up!
Thanks in advance

I believe the eggs thing is an old wives tale but I could be wrong, I'll wait for an expert on this one.
I too love eggs and there's so little calorie wise if you eat them poached and that's just how I like em! I think the thing years ago was about cholesterol but I don't think that applies anymore?0 -
I eat any where from 3-6 eggs per day. I have no cholesterol issues. Eggs are a perfect form of good fats, cholesterol and protein. They are pure (provided you are eating farm eggs from free to roam chickens).0

Yeah, they're high in cholesterol, but this doesn't convert into cholesterol in the body, as I understand it. Saturated fat is the enemy in that respect.
A lot of the low/slow carb diets are so dependent on eggs, people would be dropping like flies.
I have omelettes planned for diner tonight0 -
Negative... unless that's all you eat all day!!! There's not enough fat/cholesterol per egg to limit yourself 1 egg a day or 3 a week... Just watch your total nutrient intake a go from there. If everything is in the green, eat as many as you want!!0

Yes, that is old, outdated information. Whole eggs are good for you. Much better than that preservative filled crap they sell in a carton. Ewww, gross. blech.0 -
I believe the last I heard 1 or 2 eggs per day is perfectly healthy! They are great hard boiled as a snack in my opinion!0

the only downside really to eggs is the Cholesterol as they are about 80% of the reccomended daily amount per egg, but with all the protien and B Vitamins its worth it0

Saturated fats are not the enemy either. Saturated fats are way better for a person than vegetable oils.0 -
I love eggs, especially for breakfast. Enjoy your eggs! (Just don't eat a dozen in one go)0

Well the more cholesterol you eat, the less your body has to make.............Therefore your cholesterol level will actually go down due to your body not making as much.0 -
Thanks Folks - I will continue with my poached, boiled, scrammbled and dry fried eggfest guilt free!0

I'll be watching this thread with great interest. I 'came over' from Slimming World, where eggs are a 'free' food. I often had half a dozen a day, between cooking with them, and snacking on them. Now I find out they're in the region of 70 calories EACH, it's no wonder I wasn't losing any more weight!0

Actually carbs are the enemy when it comes to cholesterol (and heart disease and diabetes and most other chronic diseases), not saturated fat. I'm pushing this book whenever I can: Why We Get Fat and What to Do About It by Gary Taubes. Buy it, read it and then read it again. It will open your eyes to the bad science that has been pushed on us for the last 50-60 years.
I eat 2-3 eggs a day on most days. Especially fried up in some real butter! YUM!0
