Patella Tendonitis?

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I trained for a half marathon last year, and loved the long distance training. I have finally got back to my racing times (9 min miles) after a knee injury and then an ankle injury this past fall/winter. I have felt well enough to work my way back to around 5-6 mile runs 2-4 days a week. I just broke through my weight loss plateau but now I think my regular runs will come to a halt again because my Patella Tendonitis has been acting up. I have been more consistent with running, but my knee is paying for it now. It burns/aches at mile 2 I bought a knee brace but I need some advice, because my doc told me 6 months ago to rest it, but its back up to its old tricks. Training tips? Exercises? Ice/Heat regimen?
