if it's not emotional eating, then what is it??

So I already know I have a horrible habit of binging and giving in to my cravings (especially around TOM), to which I've been told "oh, it's emotional/due to boredom/stress", etc. But can't I just be a gluttonous pig with no other explanation but that?! If I want some candy, I want candy. Eating a piece of fruit isn't going to do it for me. How do I rewire myself? There's no root to my addiction that can be fixed, so maybe help me find a way to make food much less appealing? Haha, thanks guys, just kinda venting......

    I'm completely unreasonable with food around TOM. I just go ahead eat whatever it is I want because trying to find a substitute only results in me eating MORE calories.

    If I want licorice and try to soothe the craving with something else -- I'll eat 500 calories of "something else" and will still want the licorice. Better to just eat the stupid licorice and move on.

    Hee hee!! I indulge, too and just try to adjust the rest of my calories. If I can't seem to do that then I watch the next few days. I just know that if I don't give in a little with TOM, then I'll go WAY overboard when I least expect it. My cravings always go away within a couple of days and all is well again.

    I understand what you are saying. I don't always feel that there is some deep, emotional meaning behind the fact that I just downed a half a can of Pringles. I just wanted them and couldn't, or simply didn't, stop! I'd like to be the person that can eat two or three, but I have no idea how to make that leap.

    Agreed! I'm not particulary stressed, upset or anxious..I just want some sugar! Right now I'm eating a bowl of lentils when I really just want a cupcake..and you're right, its not particulary helping.

    I think the key is just portion sizes. Have what you want, just try not to binge on it...easier said than done, I know. I would get up and physically remove yourself from the food you want, even if its to do chores or something (scrubbing a bathroom kills my appetite...)
  • Cinnamon really helps me with sugar cravings....try drinking Cinnamon tea the next time you crave the candy!
