I am not a technical person but I have a simple question for you folks on low carb diets, I just want some advice on how you count your carbs when their are net carbs involved. Do use the net carb count or do you us the actual carb count. i always use the higher of the 2, which is usually the reg carbs

I know that when you are on Atkins you go by net carbs.. Net carbs are the amount of carbs in something minus the amount of fibre. I tried it for a while but found I would always binge after a day or 2. Now I am following a 40-30-30 ratio and find it to be very effective

I've always counted net carbs. The fiber and any sugar alcohols in foods won't impact your blood sugar, so you don't need to count them. It can make a big difference in your carb count for the day, especially when eating lots of veggies which have a good percentage of their carbs from fiber.

keep in mind you should only deduct fiber if it's over 4g of fiber! Never if it's under.

I never heard of that, what's the reason for that?

Count net carbs. On myfitnesspal you can track your carbs AND your sugars. You just have to go to the goals tab.

I always tracked gross but all of this makes sense. Don't know why I didn't think of it before actually.
