I'm just starting a low carb diet (and getting back to myfitnesspal) and I was curious as to how much weight anyone else lost in the first few weeks or months doing low carb?

Low carb really helps drop the fat and not just the weight. I've lost 30lbs in 4 months but I;ve also gained lots of muscle. My body fat has dropped from 33% to 25%. I still have carbs but it's thew good clean kind and nothing after 4pm.

I'm on Phase one week 2 of atkins last week I lost 6.5 pounds.
  • I haven't been following a diet really, I've just cut out sugar and carbs and increased my veggies and am drinking a buttload of water. I started May 15th and have lost about 11 pounds so far. I did Atkins by the book about 4 years ago and lost 15 lbs in 2 weeks. Eating low carb definitely seems to work for me. I'm also hoping to get motivated to start exercising again. I did hip hop abs for 2 months last summer and was at my current weight when I stopped but my measurements were all smaller. I think you just have to keep serching until you find the right plan for you and stick to it. This site has been a great motivator and I'm glad I found it!

Most meats and fish (real fish, not the imitation stuff or fish sticks) have 0g carbs. Eggs are generally considered very low-carb or carb-free, though some brands list 1g on the container. Real cheese is very low-carb. But yes, beyond those things, pretty much everything else has carbs in them. The Atkins Induction phase, where you're eating 20g of NET carbs (carb grams - fiber grams) can get a little tricky...you kind of have to mainly stick with leafy greens and the proteins mentioned above with a serving here and there of some other veggies. You can also have some sour cream, avocado, olive oil, things like that. Most other low-carb diets allow you more carbs than that, though, and Atkins allows you to add carbs in after the first two weeks or skip the Induction phase altogether.

If you're interested in learning more, the web has a plethora of info on low-carb eating plans if you just do a little Googling. :)
