So, I'm sticking to a .5 weight loss goal, which should be easier to stay within my calorie limit... but every 3-4 days, I REALLY struggle to stay within my calorie limit, and I usually end up going over. Does this happen to a lot of other people, or do I just need to start watching how much I am eating more? It's a little annoying to go over every couple of days or so.

You need to excercise more. More excercise=more calories burned=more calories you can consume.

What about the rest of the days? Are you hitting your target or are you way under? Approximately how many calories are you having per day now? If you opened your diary, we can probably give better feedback.

In general, it's fine to go over, but 3-4 days is too often. Once a week would be more like it. You need to stay disciplined the rest of the week. Use the once a week free day as something to look forward to.

Edited to add: How much are you going over by those days? If it's just like 50 calories or something, don't even sweat it!

Exercise is good. Also, I have days (like today,) that I go over, but I try to balance it with a couple light days. I am never over by a lot, so it is not hard. If you went crazy over, then it is harder to balance your days out. I try to look at the week as a whole, so that my average is about what I should be eating every day.

I think its just part of the learning process. I've been doing this for four months now and am finding it much easier to stick to a smaller sized portion that I was used to. I also find that I've got more concious of the kinds of food I"m eating, making healthier choices makes it easier to stick to your calorie limit.
My initial goal was to log what I was eating to see where the problems areas are - perhaps you could try this for a few weeks, don't worry about going over initially, just log then look for patterns and areas where you could make changes.
  • Once a week I find myself going a little over my calorie count... I do it so I don't deprive myself of eating what I want and also so my body doesn't get used to eating a certain way and I hit a wall on my weight loss. Not sure if this makes any sense but it works for me. Somimes if I go over more than once in a week than i just excercise a bit more that day or really watch what I eat others days to balance myself out. Good luck hope this helps.

Yeah, I don't go over 3-4 days of the week... I meant about every 3-4 days of sticking to my calorie limit, I go over one day... and usually it's about 100-200 cals...
