In the market for an HRM. Everyone suggests Polar but there are a hundred different models of that brand alone. So help me.... what one do you use? I run and do various cardio exercises so it needs to work for both. Id prefer one with a strap for accuracy. Dont need GPS. I MUST have calories burned. Thats really my MAIN concern. Also, looking at them on ebay and most of them are mens models. Does it matter if I buy a mens? Shouldnt they measure the same way?

I bought a polar FT4 it measures calories burned and is for male or female! I love it and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. HTH =)
  • I bought a FT4 as well and love it... cheaper than the FT7 and does everything I need!

Don't know if this will help you any but...........Here is a link that was posted in another thread with a lot of information on HRM's. Also, I would suggest getting one with a chest strap as they are better to calculate an accurate HR.

I purchased a Polar FT40 about 4 weeks ago to replace my old Polar FS3 (which didn't calculate calories burned) and I  the FT40.

You can search the internet for specials and lowest prices if you are shopping for a HRM on sites like Amazon, sporting stores, ebay, etc. I bought both of mine on heartratemonitors dot com and also found an online coupon for it and saved an additional $10.00 in addition to it being on sale

I was going to buy an FT4 since I've never used one before, I figured I would get that as a 'starter'. However, I ended up buying an FT7 (because I got it for the same price as an FT4 on-line) and so far I love it.

I got the FT40 for Mother's Day, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it.

Whatever you get, it's a great thing. Without knowing what calories burned are, we can't have the true picture.

    :)

My question is - how big are the chest straps? I wear a size 42 bra - is it going to be big enough?

I had a Garmin 405cx until last week. I ran the software update a couple months back, and it screwed it up. I took it back to REI, and bought the Suunto T3d - women's version. I got it from Zappos - but mostly because of the free overnight shipping. ;)

I have a couple friends that are personal trainers (and my trainer as well), and they recommended the Suunto. I also have a friend that has one, so I had seen it work. It gives me everything I need - HR, calories burned, time. I can do intervals with it too, but haven't tried yet. A big one for me - this one isn't rechargable. The Garmin was, and it was a nightmare! I'm pretty happy with it overall.

this is not a problem... I'm a 38, and have it pulled over halfway as short as it will go.

They generally list sizes, but they're S/M or L/XL - I wear a 44 bra and the L/XL fits me fine... I think it goes up to 52.
