medication experience

I was prescribed to Concerta last year for adult onset ADHD. I wasnt taking it regularly (only on days I had classes) as reccommended by my doctor. Then as I started to work full time I noticed I needed it to pay attention to tasks at work. The past week I have taken my dosage (36mg in the am, 36mg at noon) and I have already had almost a four pound loss this week with minimal exercise. I recently had some blood work done, and although I am not eating my full 1200 calories a day (the Concerta kills my appetite) all of my essential nutrient levels are normal or above normal and I am in very healthy condition.
Has anyone else been prescribed to ADHD medicine and had results like this? I am just wondering if this is normal / what to expect in the future.

ps: I am not looking for any responses from people who tell me to stop taking the drug. I have a history of mental problems and this medication is working for me in conjunction with other meds. All I would like to know is if anyone has had experience dealing with this. Thank you!

I don't have personal experience with it but a friend who started taking it lost 30 pounds in about 45 days. He said he was more focused and felt the old "get up and go" so he was doing more projects around the house and yard. He also mentioned he was less hungry and didn't crave junk food.

I hope that helps. Btw, he was 55 years old when he started this.

My brother takes it and he has had similar problems as you. He doesn't eat the full 1200 calories a day, but his nutrient levels are normal. He is underweight for his body type, but he is healthy. He takes it only when he has class (he is still in college).

I am sure that when he graduates next year he will take it more often. I know that he forces himself to eat in order to get as close to the 1200 calories a day, because I have told him that he needs to get there as much as he can.

If you are worried about it too much, I would say talk to your doctor or a nutritionist. Those are always the best bet in a case like this, especially if you are worried...

I am not that worried about it. It truly is helping me, I was just wondering other peoples experiences. I do get hungry, just not as much (which could also be a result of my diet and overall eating less then I used to)

I lost a ton when I was put on ritalin which is the same type of med. Eventually it should all even out as your body gets used to it. But you also have to make yourself eat even though you are not hungry..dont want to end up slowing your metaolism down.
