Check out this link I found. $14.00 bowflex HRM. Don't know if it is a good one, but it is a no chest strap version.

You really won't get an accurate reading without the chest strap.

With HRMs you kinda get what you pay for.

With no chest strap it only takes a reading when you touch it with the other hand. Definitely get a chest strap HRM. Also make sure that it counts calories, as there are some out there that don't (accidentally ordered one).

I just bought one and I don't like it. Should have stuck with the Polars... heard good things about them. Pisses me off cuz i can't return the old one cuz I threw the box away. Although I did buy a 1 year warranty for it... so maybe I can say it's broken and get a refund. hopefully

Let me start off by admitting that I am SUPER CHEAP :embarassed: but I finally gave in and bought a Polar FT7 and I LOVE IT! I am not disappointed and it was a great investment. I don't want to sway anyone either way but just wanted to let you know
  • I was recommended this one: http://www.amazon.com/Timex-T5G971-Unisex-Personal-Monitor/dp/B000P8VWQS/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1305646510&sr=1-1

About twice to three times as much but still much less than the Polars. The person who uses it is very fit and works out a lot and says she likes it a lot so I trust her judgement.

Yes, great for all of you. But there are tons of people who 1.) can afford to spend the money for a polar 2.) don't like the chest straps 3.) need a better alternative than nothing. But thanks for your comments.

I bought a similar watch to this and am now trying to sell it because I would only use it as a watch and thus pointless to keep. If you are running at any sort of speed, bicycling, swimming, or whatever, you don't want to have to stop so that you can see what your pulse is.

I don't want to spend a lot either, but I'll probably get the $50 one from walmart because I know it has what I want and I can easily return it if I don't like it.
