Hi All --
Anyone know of an alternative for sandwiches that are low calorie and hardly any sodium? I have been having oven roasted turkey breast for my lunches and although I am still in the "no more than 2400 mg" of sodium a day.....it is summer here and I am retaining SO much water and the scale is showing it
This is my second week on here and the first week, I lost 6 pounds.....this week....I'm afraid to get on because my rings are tight!
Thanks in advance

My girlfriend picks up Boar's Head lower sodium turkey breast with half the sodium. It tends to go bad quicker than normal lunch meats though due to the lower sodium.0

I cook up turkey, ham or chicken myself at home then slice it up and use it for lunch meat. Saves sodium and I can do it on Sunday afternoon or evening to have for the whole week.0

i do vegan lunch meats. hardly any sodium and very low in calories. if you do that0

I cook a bunch of chicken breasts once a week and slice a couple of them into thin slices and use that instead of lunch meat. I try to keep my sodium under 1500 mg a day so there was no way I could justify eating lunch meats. Also the lunch meat from the deli is usually lower in sodium, but still not as low as from meat you cook.0

Good topic as it is something I battle with all the time...sodium :grumble:

I'm with the cook your own meat and use that group.
If you really miss the super thin deli slices you can always invest $50-$90 in a home deli meat slicer and use that to slice up turkey breast and roasts you make in your oven. Or, if you have a really friendly local butcher shop or deli with a slicer, you might chat with the folks there and see if they'll let you bring in your roasted meats for them to slice.
I worked in a store that had a full kitchen, fresh foods/deli counter, sandwich counter and charcuterie department. We roaste off every meat for the sandwich counter except the ham in house and sliced it all fresh each day or two. And we also had a woman that would bring us bulk blocks of cheese and meats that she'd buy or cook and we'd slice it all up for her.0 -
I agree with above posters....just cook your own meat and slice it up.0

Try looking at Dietz and Watson Lunch Meats. Yes they are more expensive, but they are def. lower in sodium then a lot of other brands. My favorites are their lite turkey and roast beef.0

I agree with cooking yr own meats and slicing them but if you do not have the time Boar's Head Maple Roasted Chicken Breast is only 310 mgs sodium - the lowest I have found as opposed to their low sodium turkey. I am definitely finding that anything "maple" is lower in sodium. Today I made my husband B&M Maple Baked Beans and they were less than half the sodium as the Original Baked Beans.0
