I have been looking into this and think it might be a great place to start. Has anyone tried this program? I see that I can download an ap for my phone which seems pretty neat. I want to build up stamina to be able to do a 5k by the fall. Anyone with me?

I am with you but I am trying to do one on July 17th and just started training. You can add me as a friend if you want. I also have a 8 week 5k training calender if you are interested.

I started this today ..... I thought I was going to die! I will persevere though, if I can ever walk again :) There's another thread on here with a group that are just starting this ... hang on I'll see if I can link!

I just completed week two yesterday and I'm enjoying it. Another member of MFP posted this link for podcasts which I found really helpful.

I'm going to sign up for a 5 km run, it's near the end of September. I wish there was one closer to when I'll finish the program.

Add me as a friend if you want as well. We can encourage either other - I'm a little worried about week three. Jumping from running 90 seconds to two 3 minute running segments.

    Morning!

I just attempted my first 5k at the beginning of May and used the C25k iPhone app. It was great! My first 5k was definitely the hardest thing I've ever done. I am going to do another one in the fall. It's a bit too warm here to run right now.

Good luck and I'm definitely in for a 5k in the fall!

I think the C25K will be great for you. I am just starting to train for a 5K on July 17th as well, but even though I haven't run for over 10 years, I did do track and cross country in school so I was able to pick it up again pretty quickly. I'm going by Higdon's 5K training schedule. I'm doing the last 5 weeks of novice and the first 5 weeks of intermediate. You can do a google search if you want to check it out, but if you're completely new to running you'll probably want to stick with the C25K.

The C25K plan definitely does work. I used something similar to get started in running about two years ago and I've finally worked my way up to doing a half marathon next weekend.

I downloaded the IPhone app, and I love it. I finished week 2, and it kicked my tush! I also found out the very hard way that I can't do it outside. At least in my neighborhood. I live in the country, and the roads are super hilly. My Heart rate hit 190 and I thought I was going to die. For real. So, it is only the treadmill for me, till I can find some flat ground to do it on.
