Not sleeping

This is a vent and a question, I haven't been sleeping at all lately, I mean at ALL I've slept about 3 hours in the last 3 days.
I've always had insomnia and I’ve tried all my tricks but nothing is working, not the melatonin I swear by, not neo citron, I'm go go go all day and still not sleeping at night.
I can fall asleep no problem but I wake up at lest 40 times a night, I feel about ready to lose my mind.
The question though is can this affect my weight? I wasn't very good this weekend but wasn't horrible and I've gained 4lbs!! I'm going on a juice fast for 2 days(raw juice and veggies only) so I'm not worried about it sticking around but I was wondering if the no sleep could be part of the reason for the gain?

Sadly yes, not enough sleep can really shoot down your ability to lose.0

Have you ever been tested for sleep apnea? Ever been told that you snore? Fall asleep during the day if you sit still for too long?
Apnea will do this to you, and unfortunately it creates a TON of serious health problems beyond exhaustion.
Yes, lack of sleep can affect your weight. You will crave more carbs and produce more cortisol, which can promote fat storage.
Why would you go on a juice fast when your body is already so overstressed by lack of sleep?0 -
most definitely as it affects your metabolism. have you had a sleep study to make sure it isn't health related issue?0

My doctor wanted me to do a sleep study but I never did it, my fiance was telling me this morning that I have to do it, but for some reason I'm really scared to.0

Please get it done--not getting it done is much scarier, as sleep apnea greatly raises yoru risk of both heart attack and stroke. My mom had two strokes between getting her sleep study and waiting for the CPAP to be delivered. (She finally got it done after falling asleep while driving and totaling a brand new van.)
It's not scary. It's a little awkward because of the electrodes they have to attach to you, but it's not painful in any way.0 -

Becasue I feel like crap, I ate things that I normally wouldn't, I"m backed up(sorry if TMI) I find a jucie cleanse usually makes me feel better, clears things out.0 -
Short answer....yes.
Lack of sleep makes you feel stressed, which in turn triggers stress hormones.
You use melatonin which is awesome. I call myself an aerobic sleeper because of my constant moving around. With my back issue I thought it was just something I would have to live with. This weekend I got a fiber filled mattress pad and it has changed my sleeping for the better. So if you are waking because you feel pain then you might consider a bed topper. Less money than an entire bed.
Another issue can be hormones. I find it almost impossible to sleep right before that time of the month.
Here is my advise. Add 'Sleep MD' and 'SAM-E' at night. You can get them at walmart. You might need to take them two days before they kick into effect. Be sure and take them early! You do not want to feel groggy the next day.
Two last pieces of advise. 1- No lights or tv while in the sack. If you have an alarm with a light cover it. Light aparently signals the brain to wake up. 2-maybe some light noise like rain or such. If it is dead quiet my mind won't calm down.
Hope these help ;-)

I have insomnia as well. According to my doctor sleep deprivation can effect your weight. I don't have any magic answers. getting exercise in regularly helps, no napping during the day no matter how tired helps as well. I don't drink coffee or caffeinated drinks. I also stay up later, probably til 12;30 or 1. I average about 5 hours sleep a night on a good day and typically don't wake up more than once a night. Occasionally I only make it to 3:30 or 4. Those are hard days because I then fall back asleep around 7 and have to get up by 8 in order to make my 9am water aerobics class.
Just hang in there and try to get on as regular a schedule as possible.
You should do a sleep study. It's the easiest thing ever. They just stick a bunch of leads (wires)on your and monitor how you sleep. This also rules out sleep apnea and anything else going on. My official diagnosis is insomnia and delay phase sleep dysphasia which basically means my body wants to stay up late and sleep late. A sleep specialist can also give you tips such as whether you need to get black out curtains in your bedroom, a light box for waking and other tips. if you have apnea they may recommend a CPAP machine.
Ambien CR works for me but after a while on it I start to have really surreal dreams. Most sleep meds are supposed to be temporary fixes and not for long term use. I function better when not on them and try not to use them unless my sleep gets really out of wack from things like travel0 -
