Okay, so i bought a HRM without really researching it. I have 90 days to return it, if i decide to get a different one or decide this one sucks :)

Anyhow, i can see my heart rate.... but there isn't a mode for calories burned. I thought there would be a mode to see that. Anyhow, is this how most HRM are? Or how do you calculate the calories burned?

Thanks!

BTW, its a new balance N1 HRM.

You have to get a HRM plus one that shows calories burned. I have the Polar F4 and LOVE it. It is close to $100, but well worth it for me.....it keeps me motivated. It's the only thing that is getting me to get my workouts done :)

Thanks, i think I am going to take this one back--hehe and do more research before I buy a different one. I heard the Polar HRM are good, but you cant change the battery. Is that true?

I have the N4 and it shows calories burned. I push the view button when it's in HRM mode to cycle through calories burned, totall heart beats, time in zone, Hi BPM, Low, BPM & % of max

If the owner's manual doesn't say it gives calorie info then it doesn't. I think the New Balance N1 is a really simple one that doesn't give you anything more than HR. In March I bought a Polar CS 100 and it gives calories burned as well as how long you stayed in your zone, how long you were over and under, etc. which are very helpful. The CS 100 is for bicycling but Polar makes other similar models that are for running. It cost about twice what yours costs but it's very well made and seems to be durable too.

Also, Polars have to be sent back to have the battery changed in the transmitter, tho you can change the watch's battery yourself if you want.

I had the same problem, I went through two, I bought them local, and neither give me any kind of satisfaction, so I took them back. Came home and googled most accurate hrm for calorie burn. Several sites named the TimexT5G981 as the best one for the best price, I found one on ebay for $45, got it in about a week, I luv it, easy to operate, etc. Went straight to the gym, got on three different machines, the hrm was about 20 cal's off. Also pretty close to mfp figures, so I'm assuming it was pretty accurate!! Luv it!

does it have a chest strap? I would return it and get one that has calories burned. Like others I have the Polar FT4 and love it....

To me the point of having the HRM is to get a true reading of your calories burned.

I also love the Polar FT4. You can change the battery yourself. I do not know if there is one in the chest strap but definitely it can be changed in the wrist monitor.

I too had bought one thinking an HRM is an HRM. I returned the Timex I bought that didn't tell calories burned in this particular model and went with the FT4. Love it!

Anything Polar! I have a Polar FT7 and love it! It is so easy to use and so accurate... I could not have made a better choice.

I would steer clear of the timex ones. I had one and wound up returning it because in my opinion the calorie count was way to high... plus for the one I had, it only let you enter your weight.. and you want one that lets you enter weight, age, sex and height.

That is not true.. with the FT7 I just bought, you can change the batteries in both the transmitter and watch yourself.
