Hello Everyone. First off, many thanks to MFP for helping me loose 9 lbs over the last 30 days !! I am 44, married to my beautiful wife, and father of 3 kids. My day is busy !! As I started counting my calories and using my Eliptical ( 3 days a week @3o min) I started to see the weight come off. I've found the eliptical somewhat boring and I've started looking at programs like P90X. My issue is this. I have a bad lower lumbar per MRI. ALL of my lower lumbar is herniated to some extent. I know for starters I need to work on my core. Any suggestions would be appreciated and looking forward to hearing your stories.

    Hey there,

Given your physical history, I would say from the start that you'd be considered "special population" in respect to a workout plan so I would not recommend giving (or taking) any program advice for what you could/should be doing through a fitness forum without an extensive discussion around what you can and cannot do in respect to the lumbar herniation.

I'll send you a private message as there are several additional health questions that would need to be answered before any safe program ideas can be suggested in light of your lumbar limitations.

    Cheers!

    Hey there,

I have a herniated disc in my lumbar spine.

It's taken quite some time to figure out what exercises I can do without aggravating the disc and causing severe sciatica.

My suggestion would be to work with a physiotherapist or a specialized trainer to find what works for you. I would not recommend trying workout DVDs etc...

    All the best!
