So, I was stretching, and apparently turned wrong, because I felt a bursting sensation in the back of my neck, and now I can't turn my head to the left... it hurts SOO BAD!!

Going to the doc is OOTQ, cause I don't gots health insurance.

OUCH, I say!

Suggestions?? J told me to put heat on it and take some ibuprofen... I gotta work in an hour and a half... :grumble: :grumble: :grumble: stupid NECK!

luckily I'm not waiting tables today, I'm cashiering, so I won't have to move around a whole lot... I've got a hot towel rolled up around my neck which feels pretty good -- just gotta make it through today.... i'm off tomorrow.

Sounds like a strained or pulled muscle. In that case, I've already heard R.I.C.E--Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. Ice is usually better right after you do it, keeps inflammation down. Heat after the first day.

    Hope you feel better!

    Lol@Texolina...

I took some ibuprofen, and I think it's helping... it's more stiff than painful now, even though it still hurts..

LOL!   But, on a serious not, If it was a popping sensation like you got a chiropractic adjustment, probably rotate heat with ice and use ibuprofen or to help with pain and keep swelling down. If it was a pulling (or hot) sensation (like muscle) ibuprofen and heat usually work for me... If the pain is not helped with ibuprofen, you can add tylenol every 4 hours too.

    FEEL BETTER! :flowerforyou:

I think I've had that same thing happen before! Did you see a split second bright light and get like an electric shock in the neck when it happened?

no light, but I got the electric shock! I was confused at first, like, "What the hey just happened?!?"

Sounds just like what I've done a couple times then--except I got the flashy light (like in "Men In Black  ). Not sure what it is but the pain went away within a day for me. although the neck stayed a little stiff for a couple days after that.

did this happen while you were at the 'puter sis? You may wish to take more breaks, and do stretching exercises, like neck rolls (after it heals up, of course). I know that I've been behind the keyboards too long when the muscles over my left shoulder blade start to cramp up. So I take a break, do some stretches, etc.
Also, Doc Jamers reccomends a nice, warm, relaxing...

    thanks for the advice :)

It's feeling a little better, still hurts, but not as much and I have some increased mobility... I guess we'll see how things are in the morning...where's p90x_dude when you need him?!?:grumble: :grumble: :grumble: (j/k:tongue:)
  • You can't go wrong rotating heat and ice every 20 minutes or so...
It sounds like you are already doing something to keep swelling down.

I hope you feel better very soon.

Have to say ice is better than heat at first then alternate... but ice for the first day or so, Advil (or whatever brand) for the inflammation and keep it up cause it works best if you take it timely.

    Ouch !! Feel better.
