OK fellow MFPers, It seems as if I have hit the wall. In the past week, I have done all i am supposed to do and some and nothing. I am putting out more than I am taking in and no weight came off. In fact, I appear to have gained. My simple question to you guys is...How do you get over the wall?
Signed,

  • I made it over by really focusing on protein, fiber and tons of water and adding more cardio. I know everyone is different, but that's how I shook the wall.

everyone is different but I'd love to hear some suggestions. I've been moving the same 2-3 lbs for SEVERAL months. Have a final 10-15 lbs to go to my goal weight so I'd love to get them moving!

Only one thing causes people to gain weight, that's insulin. It's caused by too many carbs, or too many calories. Cut down your carbs, try to eat under 100grams. If you lose no weight in 2 weeks, cut them down to 80grams. Keep on doing this untill you get weight loss. Once your weight loss stops, keep on decreasing till you get down to 30grams. Once you hit 30grams, decrease your calories by 500, and start over.

just remember, muscle weighs more than fat. If you are able to, find a way to have your % of body fat measured peroidically - that might give you a more accurate idea of your weight loss. Good job none the less :)

What works for me is a day or two of loosening up the restriction reins. I give myself lots of rest without exercise and eat a little more (somewhere between my MFP goal and maintenance). Works for me.

Staying hydrated and drinking green tea helps, too. Good luck!

When I was dieting last year (lost 60 lbs in 3 months) I also hit the wall and was very confused. I read an article by a doctor that said to get over the wall you need to shock your metabolism. He suggested blowing the diet for one day -- one day ONLY -- and then get back on the diet the following day. I did do that and it seemed to work for me.

I just broke through a six/seven week plateau. I posted on the message boards about how I broke through it here:
    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/248810-six-week-plateau-busted-yay

I also blogged about it here:

I feel your pain with the plateau. It stinks that you do everything right and the scale doesn't move. Feel free to friend me if anyone needs plateau support. It was a tough 2 months for me so I completely understand!

I got this Taylor scale - which supposedly does body fat - by knowing some facts about you, and sending unnoticable electricity through your body to measure resistance and calculate body fat:

I'm having similiar issues - every other week I don't lose any weight despite having exercised and logged my calories.

Anyway - I've done some reading on it and it seems like a pleateau is a good part of the weight loss process because it signals to us that we need to make some changes to the way we're doing things. Some ways to break though them are to up the calorie intake for a few days, reduce sodium, increase water, and to change up your exercise routine.

Thanks for all the advice guys. After reading all, I plan to cut my cardio down to an hour a day instead of two, add some resistance training, and increase my caloric intake by another 200-300. Who would have thunk that in order to lose weight, you gotta exercise less and eat more...smh and lol at the same time!!!

As you lose fat, your body cannot handle the same sort of calorie deficit. Thus, as you lose weight your weight loss per week goal should decrease as well. Usually people who are obese can handle 2 pounds per week, as you move closer or into an overweight category 1 pound per week is probably the max you can handle. Once you hit a normal BMI even that is too much, about .5 or sometimes even less will be all that your body will tolerate unless you are doing some very careful diet modifications each day. Resistance training is very important, especially further into your weight loss. I personally recommend it and High Intensity Interval Training rather than long duration cardio.

Becareful with this, you will probably gain more muscle mass which will way you down. A scale won't be a viable way to track progress. I think a tape measure would be better.

I agree with some of the other posters here. I was stuck in the same 3 pounds for weeks. I was doing everything right but nothing was shifting.

I was away for the weekend last week and thought what the hell, I am going to eat what I like. So I did - I ate whatever I wanted. When I got back I went back to healthy eating and after a few days my weight has shifted out of my plateau! I don't know how it works but it did!
