Question about Calorie Burn on Stair-stepper

So I like to consider myself pretty seasoned at cardio, I'm in the army and in Iraq and I do about 45 minutes to an hour of cardio every day...However, I knotice that when I am on the Stair stepper it says I'm burning like 1050 calories in 55 minutes....Is that accurate? I use a resistance of 8-10 and I have pretty strong legs from doing weighted leg workouts but I'm new to the stair stepper...So if it burns this many damn calories I need to start doing it more than just running because its about double the calorie burn! Any answers?
