Absolutely! I alternate power walking 3.5 - 4.0 mph pace with step aerobics & weightlifting. I wear my HRM with chest strap any time I exercise. I was shocked when I found that I can get the same calorie burn (if not more) by power walking as I do when I step. I walk six miles for a total of 1.5 hrs. and I do step aerobics for an hour. Both yield about the same burn. I encourage you to keep walking then add other things into your workout routine to keep things interesting for you. I've lost 23 pounds so far. Keep up your good work!

I have a bit of weight to lose, but I lost 14lbs and the only exercise I did was walking. Since then I've moved on the C25K (though the walking was easier to keep consistent)

When I started this journey in 3 months ago it was Winter and the regular temp was -35/-40 with the windchill - couldn't afford a gym membership and there was NO way I was walking outside and getting frost bite!!! So I just started walking on the spot in my living room while watching t.v - I'd do that for an hour or so a day! I lost almost 10 pounds in the first month! Plus it got me moving again and motivated and now I'm doing Tae Bo and Turbo Jam DvD's on a regular basis!! Walking is Wonderful!!!!! And a great start!!! Remember, ANYTHING is better than NOTHING!!!!! Just move however and as much as you can!!!!!

Seems to me that what you have here is the tortoise & the hare story playing out. Walking will get you to the finish line, albeit slow & steady. Sometimes I get a bit over zealous at the gym & cause myself unnecessary aches & pains & so I am acting as the hare. When this happens, I need some time to recover, and so I do a combination of leisurely & brisk walking to get myself back on track. The combination of walking & calorie control still allows me to continue towards my weight loss goals.

Keep up the good work & best of luck to you!

I use the Leslie Sansone dvds. I started in March and have lost almost 40 lbs. I used to do 30-40 minutes a night. Now I try to do 30 in the morning and 30 at night. This is the only exercise I do. It seems to be working! Good luck!

Yes, yes, and YES! Walking is GREAT exercise. I take my dog on a 3.5 mile walk 1-2 times a week, and alongside tracking my calories, have lost about 24 lbs. Walking rocks! :-)

I lost 18 pounds by walking, doing the elliptical, lifting weights and watching my diet. So you can def. lose weight by walking.. and since I hate running, its the perfect exercise for me!

I've lost 41 pounds and I'd say 95% of all my physical exercise is walking.. sometimes quite fast, or long distance, but walking nevertheless.

I even cancelled my gym membership, because I was not making any better progress there.

    Just my $0.02 :-)

Yes! Walking is the best! You can do it almost anywhere worldwide, it's free, and there are usually many indoor venues available for walkers when the weather is bad! I have lost 85 pounds and walking is my primary exercise!

I was walking anyway before I started tracking my calories as I have three dogs to exercise. I've simply put a bit more effort into my walking! I walk for at least 90 minutes a day at a brisk pace and this is how I burn most of my exercise calories. I also do Kinect Dance Central and Your Shape Fitness Evolved for about 30 minutes most days. I've lost 6lbs in 3 weeks so it is working for me (and my dogs!)
I have considered starting C25K but I don't have brilliant knees (they tend to click a lot if I do too much impact exercise!) so don't want to injure myself - too much at stake as I am the main dog walker in the family and can't risk not being able to exercise them! Walking is much kinder to your joints than running :)

I've noticed when using my treadmill that walking on an incline greatly increases the number of calories burned, so if there's any hills nearby use them!

Walking is a fabulous way to loose weight - it's fun, free and a great way to socialise too!
    Happy walking!
