Movie theater popcorn

Okay I know it is horrible for you, but my husband and I share a large tub once a week. The theater here is owned by the city and the members of the community take turns working to keep the cost down. The theater is almost always full. They run shows Friday thru Monday, and Monday night is Buck night where everybody gets in for a buck. When they show an R movie they will also show a G or PG movie with the G movie being at 7:00 and the R being at 9:00. And they always have pretty new movies. Last week we saw Mama Mia this week we saw Journy to the Center of the Earth, both were wonderful.
Here are the prices at the teather
Adult $3
Child $2
Family $7
Pop and Popcorn
Small $.75
Med $1.25
Large $1.50
Candy $.75
Monday nights are Buck night and everybody gets in for only a Buck, but you have to show up very early.
Like I said I know that the popcorn there is about the worse thing for you, but I just can't say no, and I do get the extra butter too.

Those prices are amazing. We have a decently priced movie theatre here. Adults are $5 and Children are $4 and the candy and drinks arent that bad. They are more expensive than yours though but still it is cheaper than most places.

If you want to cut it out, it can be done... it just takes willpower.
1.) Don't go to the theatre hungry
2.) Pack healthy snacks
3.) Bring a water bottle (just hide it in your purse/bag)
If you simply MUST get popcorn, you'll be doing yourself a favor just getting a children's size with NO butter... that movie theatre butter is one of the worst things ever. You may be downing 1,500 calories or more in a blink of an eye.0 -
It's my guilty pleasure. I skip supper then eat 2000 calories worth of buttery goodness. I'm still stying on track with my weight loss so I'm not too worried about it. I'm sure someday I'll get sick of it. Plus think of all the fiber I'm getting.
Here you can forget the bottle of water, they give you a glass of water free, and we have good water out here. No clorine, nothing added, just straight from the ground fresh water. But I usually get a large Diet Coke0 -

Everyone needs their fix, their guilty pleasure.
You are well aware of the calories you take in.
You find joy in this family outing and sharing a bucket of popcorn with the hubby, which I think is DARLING.
If you ever hit a weight loss plateau, you might reevaluate the joy of the popcorn versus the weight loss, and maybe just scale back to a smaller intake of popcorn.
But my personal opinion: ENJOY! :drinker:0 -
PS- The $0.75 candy would do me in, for sure!! I could skip the popcorn but the chocolately goodness would not be easily passed up.0

$3 to go to the movies??? If I didn't know better I'd think you posted this in 1973.
I guess the one good thing I have to say about movie prices is that after paying $10 ($20 for my wife and I) to get into the movies, there is no way I'm going to give them another dime at the concession stand. It's actually a very safe place for me regarding food.
Most theaters here now allow you to bring in water bottles though which is very nice.0 -
If you go, take microwave popcorn with you, prepopped
Its a ton cheaper (even than those prices) and healthier too!
I'm kind of floored by those prices! There are a bunch of theaters near me.. most charge 7-12$ per ticket, and then a large popcorn comes out to like 8$, and a large drink is 4.50. Needless to say, we smuggle a lot of stuff in.0 -
We went to the movies this week.
It was fun.
I wonder how long it will take me to pay off the 2nd mortgage I had to take out?:noway:

I can't stand micro wave popcorn. I would rather eat plain air popped.
I know the prices are crazy. That's what's nice about it being community owned. Almost everybody I know goes to the movie every week. It's nice to have a place where the young kids can afford to go. Where we lived before we had the out ragous prices and we very seldom went, and if we did we smuggled snacks. Here I don't mind paying because 1 it's cheap and 2 it supports the community0 -
I'm with you on the guilty pleasure. Every now and then I just want to go to the movie theater and eat a tub of popcorn with butter and salt. It's horrible in terms of calories but I plan for it by exercising an extra hour the morning that I'm going and skipping a meal and a couple snacks. I only do it about once every 3 months.
I just love the experience. Makes me feel like a kid. It's especially nice if I can hit a matinee and pay less for the tickets.0
