What exercise works for you?

Cycling is my main firm of exercise along with Your Shape boxercise on the xbox. I occasionally do taekwondo and cross trainer / stationary bike at the gym but think I need to mix it up a bit as I struggle to get any consistency.

I was thinking about running but have never been a comfortable runner. Was also considering lifting weights.

Which exercise / exercise programme has given you the best weight loss results.

The best for me is running, but you have to love to run to stick with it.
I also love to mountain bike.

I am having alot of success with P90X! I love it. It is cardio & strength. If you have any questions send me a message!
  • Treadmill and elliptical.. and going for half-hour outdoor runs. :D Pilates is also really good, when I actually stick with it!

Running is great. Even if you're not good at it, with practice you will be able to run longer and faster.

Strength training is essential to add as well, IMO. Not so much for weight loss per se, but for preserving and building muscle mass. If you do nothing but cardio you run the very real risk of burning through some muscle mass, and you may end up looking "skinny fat".

My answer would be ANY cardio + ANY strength training. Whatever feels best and most enjoyable for you.

I spent a lot of years lifting weights, I could keep a low body fat despite eating anything I wanted. If I did get a little off track, watching for just a couple weeks dropped any excess.

Now I haven't lifted in years, but I run a lot. I have to watch what I eat in order to maintain my lean build.

All that to say, for me, weight lifting was better. but at the moment I am enjoying running a lot more.

I lost 55 pounds four years ago and road biking was my main exercise. After losing the weight I added trail running for systemic fitness and bone density and doing the running on trails since I enjoy the outdoors and it is easier on the body. It's like mountain biking on foot! I next added strength training because I am approaching my sixties and really need whole body strengthening. I took up P90X and found it helps with the strength but also core, balance, agility, etc. and gives me indoor options for cardio on bad weather days. I love the Plyo-X routine! I really feel that each component of my regimen (cycling, running, and strength training) is crucial to my overall health and fitness.
  • i like running in the open air but if the weather is crap i use treadmills, in fact i bought one of these guys last year and it works okay http://www.fitness-superstore.co.uk

I like treadmills, but nothing beats dance for me :) Love jazz ballet, street and lyrical jazz. The stretching is killer, but it's a great way to burn calories and have loads of fun at the same time :)
