How do you all handle the problem of going to a big get-together where you're pretty much stuck eating what is available? What if nothing that's on your diet is part of the menu?

If nothing available is on the menu, I usually go with smaller than normal portions. That way I can sample a bit more without having too much. Or stick to things that may not have a bunch of sauces/dressings...in my experience, the food itself may not have many calories but the sauces and dressings are loaded!!

I bring an apple or two with me wherever I go. If there are sandwiches, I take them apart and eat the meat and vegetables. If the food is grilled, even better. I offer to help do things so it isn't so obvious I am not eating. I drink water. it is also only one meal, isn't it, so I try to plan for it.
Good luck! I have one of these on Saturday night!:glasses:

I had to do just that a month or so ago. I tried to eat as many vegetables as possible and just ate smaller portions of the things that weren't on my diet. Log everything, and exercise to counter the bad stuff!

Funny you should mention reunions, I am attending my extended families reunion on Saturday. I have already set my mind to sampling instead of gorging, since I know these are real meat and potato folks... and pies, and pies, and pies. This years reunion is at a local resort that has a pool, that's where I expect to spend most of the day! I've decided to make smart choices and have a good time, this is a lifestyle change for me not a diet, and that's what I will keep in mind!
