I am a diabetic struggling to lose weight and get blood sugars within normal range. so frustrated. been exercise 3-4 days week with 30 mins cardio and added exercise using equipment for strength training for 6 months . lost total of 4 pounds and sugars are never good (ranging 150 -170 for fasting). Anyone out there been where I am. trying fitnesspal to be more aware of what I am eating so maybe can find solutions to this.

    Are you type 1 or 2? From the sounds of your fasting...I'm gonna guess type 2. I'm a type 1. Mine are beyond all over the place. I've been over 250 all day.

    Welcome Denise! I am "prediabetic" in other words they are trying to keep me off of medication...lol I have found water helps my numbers ALOT!

    Been close and it was a scary time in my life. My doctor gave me three months to get things in order or he'd put me on medicine.

    I used those three months to lose 40-50 pounds and pull back from the brink.

    Diet and Exercise can only help. Follow MFP, eat properly and keep exercising. It can only help!

    Denidesigns, how often do you check your blood sugar? Do you check your blood sugar before you exercise and 30 minutes to an hour after you exercise?

    Above 100, at least more than 5 points, exercise medium to intesity.

    If your blood sugars is 100 exercise lightly.

    If it's 90'ish and below. Take a rest day.

    Exercise can drop a diabetics blood sugar quick

    Search the internet for a list of low glycemic foods under. Eat things that are under 55. Low GI foods help control blood sugar.

    You can even have free foods three times a day that's consists of less than 20 calories per servings and less than 5 grams of carbohydrates per servings. Look up foods that fit into this categories. For example. Vegetables and calories, etc.

    Per meal eat 45grams of carbhodyrates. Per snack 15grams of carbohdyrates. Eat 5 to 6 times a day. Watch your calories intake. For women I would go between 1500 to 1800 calories a day. The more intense the workouts are, the more calories a person needs, man or woman.

    Drink plenty of water.

    You can have sugar, but make it a once in a while thing. Try sugar free foods. Substitue sugar substitute for real sugar. Splenda is good. Some people may be against it. They have other sugar substitute. No Sweet and Low stuff. Stuff similar to splenda.

    Find ways to incorporate cinnamon in your eating. It helps lower blood sugar too. A little vinegar or pickles help too. Watch the sodium in everything you eat.

    Walking is good too. If you can't go walk outdoors, try indoor walking exercises. Leslie Sansone, Chris Freytag and George Foreman has some good walking workouts. Try Amazon.

    Make sure you get your water. You can even use sugar free crystal lights in your water or off brands. Diet Lipton Green tea is good too.

    Portion size is the key. Moderation too.
