Protein bars y/n?

Okay so, first of all I'll say this: I hate, hate, HATE touching raw meat (or fish) in any form, even packaged. I am forced to do so at work (grocery store), but I avoid it like the plague. Thus, I rarely end up cooking meat, and tend to stick to lunchmeat for sandwiches or salads.

However, I do eat that form of meat regularly, as well as cheese and pecans, and frozen meals containing meat/fish or cheese or both. So it's not like I'm avoiding protein, but I'm noticing that on days that I avoid fast food or frozen meals, I'm coming up short in the protein department by at least 20g.

So my question is-- for someone who's not that much into meat (and REALLY not into cooking it), are protein bars/shakes a good idea? If so, what brand(s)? If not, what other foods/tips can you suggest?

Thank you in advance for your replies!

Lunchmeat and frozen meals are usually quite high in sodium so that's something to consider. Protein bars and shakes serve a purpose but I don't think that should your main source of protein. What about beans, tofu, quinoa, greek yogurt? These are all good sources of non-meat protein.

Gotta say they are a great alternative to grabbing a kit kat or a dairy milk, so when I want that choc hit I can have a relatively healthy alternative.

The biggest loser bars, slim right and atkins are all pretty good :)

There is an amazing shake I am taking that has protein and has over 70 ingredients! It helps give you the nutrients that you need and is used as a meal replacement! If you are interested message me and I can tell you about it! :D

I'm not a huge meat eater, but definately not a vegitarian so I used to come up short on protein many times. I do have a protein bar for breakfast (Luna Bars) because I am also not a huge fan of breakfast. I have been doing good on protein since I have added the Luna Bars for breakfast.

Protein bars/shakes do serve a purpose, but I agree that they shouldn't be your primary source of protein. I usually have a protein bar or shake after I exercise, but try to get the majority from 'real foods'. I use unflavored soy or whey protein powder (depends on what they have in stock) and I make a smoothie with it. All of the flavored ones seem way too sweet for my taste. I also like the Pure Protein Bars because they are the lowest in sugar I have found.

Also eggs are a good source of protein that you could cook at home that isn't meat. You could also get a whole rotisserie chicken that is already cooked and use that without having to cook the meat yourself. Greek yogurt or Kashi Go Lean cereal also both have a lot of protein.
