crunching numbers

OK I am *whispers* 254.7 pounds as of 5/31. IF I want to reach my goal (I do) of 180 by my anniversary, I need to lose 2.34 lbs/wk for the next 32 weeks. (31 weeks and 6 days to be technical). I know that is a "big" amount each week but I'm curious if it's possible. I know the bigger you are, the easier it is to lose a big amount of weight in a shorter time. but am I considered "big enough" to pull it off? I'm 5ft 9 by the way.
I think my over all goal will be to be around 150. But I'm not sure. I haven't been 150 in....I don't even remember when I was 150!

You can do it. My recommendation... give up most carbs and only eat them before 2pm everyday when you do eat carbs. Carbs are not our friends... at least, they're not mine! LOL

    Good luck!

It's difficult to predict how weight loss will happen, and at what rate, on the MFP plan. By engaging in regular cardio and fat-burning work, strength training, and sticking to a (mostly) healthy diet, you will lose a lot of weight. Your goal is a lot of weight for 32 weeks, and keeping your goals realistic is super important in feeling successful.

Get as healthy and great-feeling as you can by then. You can do this!

:flowerforyou: Exercise, cardio & weight training will not only help you lose weight but free weights will make you leaner and more toned. Muscle burns more calories even at rest. You may find that when you get 1/2 way there you feel great. If you don't hit that goal by that date, don't let it ruin your anniversary. You'll be well on your way and looking fantastic!

This. It's not necessarily impossible, but it is a very aggressive goal, simply because weight loss is rarely linear and constant, especially once you get nearer to a healthy BMI. Most people lose at a higher rate in the beginning, and then it slows down. As you decrease fat stores, you will need a smaller deficit, and need to lose slower - and WILL lose slower. So I wouldn't get hyper-focused on that specific number, and recognize that no matter what, those days will pass and if you work hard and change your habits - no matter what you will be healthier, whether you hit that number on the scale by a certain date or not.

I'm averaging 2.7 lbs per week. It's TOTALLY do-able! I'm STILL down 27 lbs in 10 weeks (including the 2 weeks of no losses during that time because of "aunt flo"). Just make sure you are eating your calories and keeping your net calories between 1150 - 1400 *depending on your body type. I'm also exercising 5-6 days a week.

It's definitely doable! Go for it! Even if you don't make it to your goal in 32 weeks, you can at least be close to it, AND you'll be a heck of a lot healthier.

Yes your goal is doable. I was about 206lbs when I got serious about losing weight and I got down to 174lbs in 90 days which was about 2.8lbs a week. You'll have to have your calories pretty low for that though. but you never want to go under 1200 calories a day and if you do decide to go around that range you'll want to take a good multi-vitamin daily. Also you'll want to include plenty of cardio to keep your metabolism high to add that extra kick and maybe some weight lifting as well. I think having a date in mind really helps but don't get discouraged if you don't seem to lose the amount of weight you want each week. Just stick to it and the weight will come off. feel free to message me if you have any questions about how I did it. good luck to you!

There is not guarantee that you will lose that much weight in that time - the only thing to do is to get started and see how your body responds. Even losing 10 pounds will make you feel better and look healthier, every pound that goes after that is a great milestone along the way.
I think what I'm trying to say is that there is no harm in having a big goal in mind, keep doing the right stuff and even if you don't meet it by that particular date you will be much healthier however far along you are.

It is doable, but it isn't a guarantee that you will make it. Personally I try to avoid setting goals that include losing a certain amount of weight by a certain date, because you never know how you will lose. I have been losing an average of about 3.6lbs a week (36lbs in 10 weeks), but I don't lose that consistently every week. Some weeks I have big losses 6-7lbs followed by a week of hardly losing anything, it still averages out the same amount. I am also prepared to adjust and lose less the closer I get to my goal. But no matter what if you stick to it, you will still have a significant weight loss by your anniversary and even if it isn't quite what you had hoped it will still be great :-)

I enjoy crunching numbers when it comes to fat loss. It's doable. It's a simple formula - but lots of hard work.

When I first started at 268lb I was losing 3lb a week. 23 weeks and 57lb lighter, I now lose only 1.8-2lb a week @ 1500 net calories. As I get close to my goal weight by Dec 30, I would only be losing 1.2lb a week. It's not guaranteed - but looking weeks ahead to my potential weight loss keeps me focussed today.

I'm down from 220 to 163, (at 5'10") since the second week in January, and still losing. So that is 57 pounds in about 20 weeks. So yes I believe it can be done, but the commitment to making it happen is going to be huge. While I am lightening up on myself now, it was pretty much all consuming for the first few months.
