About a year and a half ago I got whiplash (embarrassingly by smacking my head on a loft beam!:blushing: ). Long story short, once the pain subsided I noticed a lump on the base of my neck / top of my shoulders that I hadn't seen before. I of course went back to the hospital who told me it was a fatty build up, from the weight I'd been putting on, and that when I lost some weight it should go down.

Since the whiplash, I've also had a recurring problem with my neck and shoulder, which flared up again last week. So this morning, off I trotted to the doctors, and while I was talking about the pain, I also mentioned the lump, as instead of getting smaller, as I'm losing weight it's getting, if anything, more prominent.

So, the pain in my shoulder / neck is a deep set muscle problem, which means no easy fix, just more trips to the osteopath I can't afford, though at least with all the core muscles I'm building (thank you 30 day shred) it should start to occur less frequently as I get stronger.

More upsetting, the lump (HUMP) on my neck is actually a Lipoma (build up of fatty tissue) and is PERMANENT  . Not going to do me any harm, but short of Liposuction or surgery I'm stuck with it. And yes, it will show more as I lose weight. Wonderful, what a motivational tool.

So feeling pretty low now. I can't really afford the Osteopath, let alone Liposuction, and apparently there's no guarantee that Liposuction would work anyway, and it may grow back.

I'm NOT going to let this stop me. I will lose the weight I want to, and when I get to the end of my journey, I guess I'll have to make the decision then as to whether I have the surgery (and a scar) or leave the lump alone. Sorry to vent, just needed to get that out.

I have a "hump" there as well. My mom is a physical therapist and she has given me exercises. Mine is called a "forward head" and it is from bad posture.
She gave me "head retraction exercises" where you roll your shoulders back and down and hold it there for 30 seconds, at the same time you tuck your chin back towards your neck, and it forces your head back, I can feel the pull down my neck into my shoulders. If you put your hand back there you can feel how the "hump" almost disappears. Your supposed to do three reps of 30 seconds, 3 times a day.
I have no idea if this is what is causing your lump but you might look into it. If it is the case you can get rid if it/decrease it. Try and check out the exercises on the Internet and talk to your doctor. Good luck!
