Curious about Insantiy

I'm sure it's been asked before, but I simply haven't been looking for it till now. So my question is in multiple parts.

1. How effective is Insanity? (Is it worth $120.00?)
2. Would you recommend it to someone in moderate shape?
3. I saw on an infomercial that it's a multiple disc system. Do you do many discs in a day or rotate or how does this work?
4. Is there a place on this site where folks doing the Insanity workout support each other?
5. Exactly how many times does one have to throw up on themselves before you can get through a workout? (I joke on this last one, sort of, only because I could see myself wanting to retch after a session. It looks intense!)

Any experiences or advice is appreciated. I am curious about this system, but want to hear what you MFPers have to share. Thanks all!

I think it's definately worth it! Although I bought on ebay for £40 (~$60) brand new.
I think anyone can do it, some moves you have to modify at first but just go at your own pace and you'll see great results :) You don't have to follow exactly what they do, and I think they have people on there doing modified versions.

You get a workout calendar which tells you which disk to do on which day, the first 4 weeks are shorter workout disks, then you have a week of "core cardio and balance" to get you ready for the second month, which is then 4 weeks of the harder, longer disks. You just do one disk per day.

Multiple threads are always floating around for people doing Insanity, if you keep having a look on the forums you should find one, if not start your own, lots of people always seem interested in that.

It is intense, I didn't throw up though. If you are prone to that it will probably just be a few days before you are more used to it. The second month is definately the hardest but the first, and middle week are supposed to better prepare you for that first.
  • I do both the insanity and the asylum workouts. They are tough but very effective. I would say I was in moderate shape when I started and I had a hard time getting through them, but the more I did it, the longer I could keep up. I had to modify quite a bit in the beginning and had to tell myself that was ok. Even the people in the workout DVD's stop at times. Work to your level. I think they are great and well worth the money. As far as the system, it comes with a calendar and instructs you on which discs you do each day. It is a 6 day a week workout and you have a relief day as well. If you get dizzy or nauseous, you need to either stop or slow down. There is a "fit test" you should complete before starting the workouts. I hope this helps.

I started Insanity 4/19. I am now only on the recovery week as I was unable to follow the calendar to 6 days a week due to extremely busy kid's schedules. I have lost 7 pounds since starting (I do other workouts like elliptical and walking) and I can tell you that I can definitly tell a difference in my body! I average about 4 days a week with Insanity. If you are in moderate shape (which I guess I would say I was when I started) I would definitly recommend. I NEVER look forward to doing Insanity, it is a brutal, butt kicking workout, but once I have finished I have such a sense of accomplishment. My husband even said last night that he thinks I am now in the best shape he has seen me in after 15 years of marriage! We were out on the boat the other day and I had more than one friend ask what I had been doing to get in shape, I told them Insanity and MFP! Do like I did, pay the initial $60 (something like that), then the next 2 payments of $39.95 from the beachbody website and it wont seem like you are shelling out all that money at once! Hope this helped, its kinda hard to talk yourself into it, but I am sure you wont regret it!

I'm finishing up my first round of Insanity this week. I must say I really like it.
    To answer your question:
    1. Effective- It's very effective at getting you in shape... You're going to lose inches more then weight.
    2. Fitness- My fitness level was low when I started it, but I've gotten a lot stronger since starting it. You can modify the moves to work. But you push to YOUR max level. That's the great thing about Insanity. You do as much as you can do.
    3. You do six workouts a week and a rest day. The workouts rotate through the week
    4. There's a couple of threads on here of people doing insanity. This is the one I'm on.. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/246945-insanity-updates-progress-new-group
    5. I didn't throw up, but came close a couple of times. I would recommend this workout... It's really tough, but well worth the effort and money.

    Hope that helps...
  • I do insanity at my gym and I love it I am also a kick-box instructor and am beginning to get certified in one of their programs it is really awesome and kick started me into fitness. I was really out of shape when I started so it was hard for me, it just depends where you are starting out from. I would definitely recommend it even if you are not in shape because you can always modify it to do what you are able to do, and add more later it is a great motivator and I wish you the best !
