I Need To Reduce Carbs........

I have been bad the past few days, but for the most part, I've cut that out. I've just crazy busy as of late.Just looked at your diary, You are eating all processed fast food. I don't know what else to tell you except go to the grocery store and start cooking your own food. You will have more control what goes into you and your childrens food. You and your family will be happier and healthier for your little effort.0

Wow...where to being?
First off, thank you to everyone for your input. I have bookmarked several sites that I'm going to check out and use. I felt lost, because there was so much information. I figured, if I ask on here, someone might be able to break some of it down for me. Talking to people with 1st hand experience is extremely helpful.
I know my diary reads pretty bad and I readily admit I've had some really bad days here lately. I'm retraining myself when it comes to eating. I'm undoing 28 years of poor eating habits and I have to teach myself how to do this. I know it will take time and it will be a struggle.
My DR gave me information about the Mediterranean diet, which I'm going to look into as well.
I need foods that are kid friendly, as well as good for us, because I have 7 year old twins and a 2 year old (well, almost on both of them), so my meals are usually geared more toward them.
Again, thank you all for all your input!0 -
Has anyone taken a look at her diary? She is not asking for an argument she is asking for suggestions and help.
You need to get a healty cookbook or recipe online and start slow. Maybe let your children help with preparing some healthy dishes. Let everyone choose something they like and you find a way to make it healthier. Use whole grains or low fat cheese or grind some veggies up so no one knows they are there.
Healthy living means a change in lifestyle. It can be fun and the rewards are great.0 -

I am really sorry... But I have been reading a few of your posts. You seem extremely harsh and judgmental.
I commend the person who put this post up. It shows real guts to admit that you need to make a change... By asking a so called friendly community of your peers for helpful tips in my book does not mean to bash on someone's personal self and attacking their family/children.
The effort is taking that first step to make a change.
EVERY LITTLE STEP - Makes a difference! - You cut those carbs and go girl!!!

Nonsense= Reducing any one MACROnutrient, such as CHO (in any form, sugar, bread, pasta, etc.), and attributing it to WEIGHT loss. A caloric deficit is what determines WEIGHT LOSS.
Oddly enough...I had STOPPED losing weight completely at 187lbs....eating 1530cal/day (there's your caloric deficit) and not monitoring my carbs. I decided to INCREASE my calorie limit by 500cal on average a day, and DECREASE my carbs by 50-100g/day.
Now...once more, oddly enough, the scale is moving again...QUICKLY, and I have more energy than I've had in the last month and a half. My sleep schedule is totally repeatable now (it wasn't prior to last week)...and wonder of wonders...my strength has increased substantially (I certainly wasn't 'weak' before...or sluggish energy wise...so don't misunderstand). Those are the only two changes I've made.
First off, that is an insane deficit. Increasing food intake would in turn increase TEF and regulate T3/T4 levels.
Dropping carbs, which are water binding, would in turn drop water weight and muscle glycogen levels.
That deficit is what MFP recommended for me...and it's easy enough to eat plenty of good foods within that 1530cal (it may have been 1560) limit. I felt great while eating in that range...and had plenty of motivation, with no lack of energy or feelings of tiredness whatsoever. My workouts were strong, and I wasn't exhausted after. Now that I've cut down the carbs even further however....my strength has increased (as evidenced by increased reps at higher weight), and I am even less tired and sore than I was prior to this week. Understand, I'm talking 50-100g difference in carb intake on average...as compared to the prior two to three weeks (prior to this week I averaged within 125-175g/day usually, this week I'm between 50-75g/day).
Understand, I'm not saying you're wrong about my particular results...or even that I've taken the time to go look up TEF and T3/T4 etc. I'm saying that I'm always interested in learning, and that your original statement came off as insulting...on top of flying in the face of some direct evidence I myself, along with others...have experienced.
Cut refined sugar (table sugar, candy, sweets, soft drinks...you get the idea), and breads/pasta out of your diet...and you almost invariably lose weight...even if you make no other changes.

the best way to help reduce is measure those foods out. You will be amazed at how much one serving of spaghetti noodles is! Also you can change your goals in macro nutrients. I do a 40 (carb)/ 30 (protein)/ and a 30 (fat).0

Nice explanation. :drinker: Carbs are easy to lookup online. Your nutrition plan (and I went back several days) will only work short term and in a specific context.
As long as people understand that. Nothing wrong with a short term high protein plan, but to say, "Hey, look at my diary" just gives them the thought that "This guy says he finally started to lose weight - and look at what he's eating." a very dangerous combo with someone who has a lot to learn and isn't even willing to do online research, but instead comes here and asks us to do her work.
Thank you for clarifying. I'm off my now.
No problem lol...I know first hand how easily the written word can be misunderstood...and it's difficult at best to research every person that posts prior to answering their questions (or even trying to be helpful...if you don't have an actual 'answer').
Also...just to clarify...I don't eat egg whites...unless they're attached to a whole yolk =p.

I, too, cook for a family so I have to take that into consideration when preparing meals. My kids are both teenagers now and they eat-alot-so I can't just cut out carbs completely. I, do, however, only prepare one meal. If they dont like it, then they can wait 'til the next meal. What I find works for me is to go ahead and prepare the side of potatoes or whatever, but I don't eat them and just take double the veggies. For instance, if we're having omlets and fresh berries then I'll prepare some hashbrowns for the kids, but not for myself. If we're having fish and veggies then I prepare the kids a side of potatoes or something and I just double up on the veggies. I've slowly made the switch to whole wheat pasta and bread. The rice has been harder, but we're trying! Good luck to you! It's a journey well worth it!

Jesus Christ people need to chill the f*** out when it comes to carbs. They're not unholy abominations from Hell, and they're not the messiah of food. I'm working on cutting carbs too, and it's difficult. I've found making sure that the majority of your carbohydrates are complex carbs is one of the best first steps. Also, I'm thinking of lowering some of my intake of high glycemic index fruits (such as bananas. I eat a lot of them in a day).0

Aww...thank you!
I try to be nice to everyone honestly...no one wants to come here to be put down or brought down. cmriverside had a valid reason for questioning my suggestion...and I genuinely appreciated him bringing to my attention that it would be so easily misunderstood! I of course try to look from multiple angles before posting...but it's very easy to take the question at face value and answer it. I'm guilty myself of calling others out for doing the same thing...lol. I'm not going to get my feelings hurt for someone doing it to me, particularly when it was deserved.

I want to apologize for coming off an arrogant and insulting.
I push nutritional sciences so hard because I, at one point, only ate "clean" foods, lowered my carbs, ate nothing but chicken, rice, broccoli, etc., and I would BINGE uncontrollably because I was depriving myself of the foods I loved.
I just want people to know that weight loss isn't as hard as they make it out to be. You don't have to deprive yourself of carbs if you don't want to just because you think it will make you lose weight faster.
Again, I apologize for being brash and blunt. Congrats on your weight loss and weight maintenance!0 -

HUGE respect for that!!...and thank you =D.
Also, you're probably right in that it's not necessary for the most part, but it does work. I'm doing it (at least to the level I am right now...50g-75g/day) because I need to jump start my body again, which is working...and I want faster results than just a moderate calorie deficit will give me. Even after though...100-200g is all I'll take in tops, and 90% of those will be in complex carbs.
Don't get me wrong...down the road I'll be pretty broad in my food choices most likely (at least on occasions)...but I'll have gotten solidly to where I need to be...and will know what it takes to get back there if it starts to slip again.
Again, thank you your post. It shows a lot of character and is very much appreciated.
Cris0
