Looking for a diet buddy

i just started with this and I seem like I'm alone on my dieting. I feel like I am falling into my old eating habits. Since no one checks or knows what I'm eating, I tend to go over my goal everyday :(
I try to be strict and tell myself no but that doesn't work. I know I would be able to meet my goal but I need someone to help strengthen me and teach me since this is the first time really trying to stick to this diet :)

Look at it as a lifestyle change not a diet. Some people give themselves one day a week to eat whatever they want no matter what it is, this may help you and give you something to look forward to. Plus drink plenty of water. Good luck!

For me, having friends on here has helped inspire me a lot! I feel much more accountable now that I did before when I was trying to do this on my own. I just posted a message saying I was looking for friends and, before I knew it, I had several very supportive friends who added me and can help keep me accountable. So, I am going to add you as a friend so I can help somebody the way I have been helped!

Weight loss is something that we all struggle with. But at least this is a good place to find support. I'll add you to my friends.

I have been in the same cycle for years! I will start doing good and have something I "shouldn't" just telling myself nooone will know. Well, this time around I decided not to do a diet. I am tracking every single calorie but I'm having what I want. I just have to ask myself "Is that oreo worth wasting all the calories on?" Some days I still go over my calories but other days I simply say it is not worth it. Don't beat yourself up if you go a little over every once in awhile. It will happen. The way I beat it is just to remind myself it is not a diet, but a change in the way I'm living my life. I do not deprive myself of the food that I love---and there is a lot of it :) but I also try not to gorge on it like I used too. For Example if we are having pizza, I will try to just have one or two pieces instead of 4 or 5. I started to ask myself if I was really hungry or just eating it because it was good or because I was bored, upset, whatever. You can add me if you like. I just started really getting into everything in the last week and have seen great results! My official weigh in day is not until Monday and I weighed myself today and have lost 2 pounds this week which is a lot for me. However, I know that may change by Monday...But any loss is a loss and I'm ok with whatever happens. First things we have to learn is to quit beating ourselves up for every little calorie we go over. Or every time we eat something we aren't supposed to. Good luck with your journey!

First of all welcome and congratulations on taking the first step of this journey!! I used to feel completely alone in this journey, that is until I joined MFP. I had been on nearly every "diet" out there at one time or another, but never stuck with it. I would eat and not write it down, I would stress over it so much I would finally just give up. I have found this website to be a great help. Not only do I now log everything I eat, but I am completely honest on it, even on the not so good days. But what I have truly found on here is friends. People who are dealing with the same struggles I am and who understand what if feels like to be overweight and to battle this.

Please feel free to add me as a friend. One suggestion I would make is....find a group in which you fit in. I am in 3 groups and started another. It holds me accountable, offers me encouragement, and allows me to encourage others along the way.

Best wishes to you in your journey.

    hey,
i'm fairly new too and am also going to add u as a friend.
I have been in the "cycle" and half done the secret eating thinking if i eat it fast it doesnt really count and no 1 will know! With this site (or the app whicheve u have) i'm finding i am so much more rigid with myself! because if you are honest with it and put in everything all your friends see when ur doing good and when ur doing bad! but u have to be honest. there is no point just thinking it cant harm not putting on that piece of cake for dessert, no 1 will no! Well u will and u'll regret.
However the friends you have here will never judge u! (or so i've found) cause they have been there to, and when u fall off the wagon which everyone does this helps u climb back on.
    Welcome and good luck!

One of the best tips I can give you would be to make your diary public. I did this, and ever since, I've felt like I almost HAVE to do good, bc people are looking at it....and they WILL actively look at it. The trick is logging everything, no matter what hits your lips, you HAVE to log it.

Welcome to MFP. I have only been on here for a couple of weeks, and the motivation from everyone is awesome. I have also tried to go back through my food log weekly to see if there are areas I need to correct. We aren't perfect, so try not to be so hard on yourself. If you mess up, pick back up and start over again. This is really a great community. There are a lot of challenges in these community forums, so find one that suits you and the support along the way will be amazing. Free free to add me, I'm on everyday and need encouragement too! Good luck.

Totally agree with this. MFP is the reason I stay on track. I know that I have to log every single thing I eat and I look at it as a record. Have to do good on my record.

I have never before accomplished what I have since using MFP. Don't forget EXERCISE! If you want a treat, work for it. :)

I joined MFP a week ago and it really is very supportive, there are always people willing to spur you on. You are never alone - we all want the same thing here, we want to get healthy and stay healthy, whatever the background details we've all got that in common and I like to see the site as "we're all in it together!"

You can do it. It helps to log everything, that way you can see where you pick up extra calories that can be cut down on. Think of it as one day at a time, slowly stepping towards a longterm change. Best of luck.

Hi, welcome to MFP, I've recently joined in the last few days and dont have any buddies myself but could use some support and i'm happy to share my experience with anyone. I've started many diets which didnt last long. Calorie counting is the only thing which has worked for me, not only does it let you eat what you want, but you become more food aware, you start thinking,ok, a packet of crisps would be nice at 120 cal, but doesn't fill the tiniest hole in my belly, so i started eating huge plates of mixed salads instead which i found was much more fulfilling.

I dont worry too much about going over my calorie limit per day, if i'm over, i'll take a brisk walk around the block or complete a few trips up and down the stairs, or simply put my fav music on and have a dance around my living room. Have a look in the excersie section, leave the space blank and press enter, you may be surprised to see whats on there. I used to do things this way before and lost 3 stone. I sort of fell of the rails a little and stopped excersing so hit a plato for almost a year. i find its time to get back on track now so joined this site.

Good luck with your journey, like the others have said, dont think of it as a diet but as a life style change. Start making small steps and the big results will start to show x

The truth is that I eat relatively healthy foods but am truing to take off about 3-4 kilos (7-9 lbs). I have a diet that I try keeping to. I found that it is good to have many smaller meals. Following is the plan:

    Morning:
    Bowl of oatmeal

    10:00
2 slices of bread with either goat cheese spread or yogurt

    Lunch:
Vegetable salad with at least 5 colors
    2 cups of rice/pasta
1 cup of beans (or 1 egg)

    16:00
Small fruit salad or a 1/2 sandwich bag of dried fruit.

    Dinner:
    Cooked vegetables and/or vegetable salad
Egg or 1/2 cup of legumes
    slice of bread (optional)

I try to exercise 4 times a week for an hour each time.

Now, I am on this forum so that I will commit. Need your support.
  • I know the feeling! its really hard to diet when no one else around you is.... my bf loves to cook for me which doesnt help either lol so being on here keeps me a lil more focused on my goal i think :o) Feel free to add me as a friend! :flowerforyou:
