I'm sorry to hear you're feeling down. It sounds like a nice, long walk is in order! It's ok that you haven't been keeping at it like you wanted, at least now you know and now you can move forward the way you'd like to.

    You can do it!!! :)

Keep logging in every day....its a learning experience. Switch some things up...sometimes it takes awhile to find balance and progress. You can do this!!

It's possible that you are over-estimating how many calories that you need to eat and/or how many calories you are burning during exercise.

Hang in there. It's hard to get started, but eventually you'll get the hang of it. We're all here to help.

    Are you drinking enough water?

Remember that 3500 calories = 1lb. I highly doubt you've eaten so much that you've gained actually pounds. It could be water retention.

I always say -- if you're doing something for a couple weeks and it doesn't appear to be working... start switching it up. Weight loss isn't a one size fits all kind of thing. We have to learn what our bodies want/don't want.

    Not surprised you're discouraged.

A few pounds could just be a daily fluctuation, or muscles swelling with water after a good workout, but 5lb is a lot. If the two weights were taken first thing in the morning, before eating or drinking anything, and after going to the lavatory, and if you didn't eat a massively high sodium content meal before the second one or were hung over (dehydrated) for the first one, then one or a combination of three things is happening:

    1. You are guessing instead of weighing (ie underestimating) the calories in the food you're eating / not logging everything.
    2. You are overestimating the calories you are burning while exercising.
    3. You have recently developed a serious metabolic or other disease.

You're in the best position to figure out which of the three it is most likely to be.

The last post is especially informative. Are you weighing all your foods?
