Hi! I'm new here. I've used websites like this before, with the calorie counting and everything, but never really managed to stick with it for longer than a few weeks. I'm hoping that I'll be able to this time. I know that I'm very much overweight, and it's incredibly unhealthy. I also have a handful of health issues that could easily be solved or at least improved with weight loss. I love to cook, and I love using fresh ingredients which are so much healthier than pre-packaged. Unfortunately, I live with my family, so it's a bit difficult to cook healthy meals for myself when they want to have huge steaks, or pizza, or fried chicken. In spite of their constant jabs at me to lose weight, I have yet to make them understand that eating that way only makes matters worse.
I'm not looking to become super skinny. (I have a large body structure, I couldn't be super skinny anyway!) My main goal is to be healthy. My first goal is to lose 50 pounds, which I know is going to take a while. So I could use all the support I can get!

Welcome and good luck!
I struggle sometimes because my husband has NO desire to join this journey with me so there is always candy, chips, ice cream, etc... in our house. He and the kids usually expect supper to have some type of meat as the main course. One of the main things I have learned is just to eat smaller portions. To me no food is completely off limits, but I am careful to make sure things fit within my calorie goal. (And lots of exercise.) Sometimes I will have a baked potato while they eat something else. One night I made chef salad for everyone and if they wanted something else, they were on their own.

Wow, thanks for the insta-support!
I really want to get a workout plan going. My sister works for the local hospital, which has an attached health/rehab center that I can now get into for $10/month, I've just got to get that started. There's also a quarter-mile track about a mile from my house, but it's just so darn hot in the southern summertime! And it isn't lit well enough to walk after dark/before light, so I think I'll just save that until it cools off in a few months. I fully intend to start kicking my family out of the living room occasionally so I can use the Wii Fit.0
