I'm preparing for a 10k at the end of the month, and today I'm supposed to log 60-minutes of cross-training. Only thing is, I'm not sure what to do!

What cross-training fo you recommend for runners?

(Also: I suck at cycling. I'm willing to do it if I get consensus that that is the best option, but I am really, really, really bad at it. I have no idea why.)

My 10k training program recommends swimming, cycling or even the elliptical. I am with you on the cycling thing - I am really bad at it. I usually do the elliptical, but now the gym closes earlier (summer hrs) so it is hard to get there in the evenings, so not sure what I am going to do.

I was actually thinking of doing the Shred video for my crosstraining day, but it would only be 20 minutes. Maybe I can do level 1 and 2 for a total of 40 minutes.

I either bike or do the elliptical machine. I also try to get some free weights in too. You can do whatever you want to cross train that you enjoy doing. You could even do some DVDs if that is also your thing. I try to mix it up and now that the weather is nice, I go biking on this trail at least once a week.

    Best of luck.

I never really thought of doing any kind of weights and/or strength training on cross-train days. Maybe I could get some core exercises in, since I feel like my current routine lacks core work.

I'm also open to recommendations for favorite core strengtheners!
