How to stop the office munchies

Hi everyone,
Like a lot of you, I work at a desk. Not only does this mean I'm stationary most of the day - I also have a whole host of yummy treats in chocolate machines and shops nearby. One of the major ways I've managed to lose weight so is by cutting out the office snacking. Here are my tactics
1. Drink masses of water. When I arrive at my office in the morning the first thing I do is fill up a big jug of water and plonk it on my desk. Keep yourself topped up with water - it'll help quash the munchies
2. Plan-a-snack! Everyone needs a snack now and then, but make sure you have things within easy reach that are healthy/low cal. I find that if there is an apple on my desk, I'll eat that instead of going to the choc machine.
3. Ideal desk snacks - fruit of all descriptions, I also buy prepacked fruit combos from a supermarket just to change things up a bit. Also, ricecakes - the are 40cals a cake and they aren't particularly yummy (so no inclination to scoff the lot) and they make me thirsty (see point one)
4. "Do you want a biscuit? Have some cake its so-and-so's birthday" Luckily I work in a small group, all of which are fairly health concious so I don't have to worry about too many cakes doing the rounds. However, we do have a weekly "morning tea" where there are always plenty of sugary goodies on offer. Once a week is fine - I have a piece of cake and enjoy it. But if you work in a place where there are cakes all the time you need to start saying no. In fact, one option might be to say no consistently for a month, people will stop asking you eventually....
5. One other weird thing I do - because I cycle to work and don't need any money for my commute I often try to make sure I have no change on me. If I have no money then I can't be tempted by Kit Kats.

I start off my day with about 4 cups of coffee. I sip it through lunch and it fills me up so I'm not hungry and snacking. Since I don't add cream or sugar, it's 0 calories!0

A great thread went around yesterday on this topic here:

I agree with all your wonderful points!
I have mini bagles, and english muffins on my desk along with a bottle of agave nectar and peanutbutter. In the fridge here at work I have apples (I wont eat them if they aren't cold) and sugar snap peas!
I have said no sooo many times noone in my office asks me If I want anything unhealthy hardly ever.
And I never carry cash! its just too much of a temptation!0 -
Those are good suggestions! There is ALWAYS food in my office...always someone's birthday, always cookouts, cake, chips and salsa (currently fighting today). I just try to stay clear of it and like you said, plan my snacks.0

Glad my thinking isn't too weird!!0 -
Great ideas, thanks! I wish the people I worked with were more health conscious.0
