I am only on my second day of exercise and so very sore that I can hardly move....I need to keep exercising and I know my body will not stop aching after just one day of rest....so I ask you this
What should I do to heal my body fast so I can keep going and not get too unmotivated....I dont want to ruin my momentum but I dont want to end up hurt either....any suggestions???

If your just sore, I say keep going. But if it's a true pain, then rest and see if it gets better if not see your doctor. Muscles and joints can get sore, very sore in the beginning of any exercise program but it's ok to be sore just keep going maybe at a slower pace.

Where are you sore? If it's legs/hips, I would do some slower walking. The calves are the "heart of the lymph system" and walking helps to improve that lymph flow and reduce soreness. You can do modified versions of your regular exercises - do the weight lifting without the weights, for instance. Having your arms above your head increases your heart rate, and doing the same movements in proper form will still somewhat build muscle. Slow down, ease up, but keep moving.

drink lots of water in moderation, it's helps with soreness. I didn't believe it but it works, you have to stay hydrated and so do your muscles.

If you are worried you don't know the difference between an injury and true soreness get out there and get a good walk in. If it is just soreness you will feel better after your walk as you will be able to loosen everything up and get the fluids moving in your body. Soreness feels better when you move through it and injury hurts more. Keep moving though. Its the best way to ingrain those habits into your life!

I sometimes will take an ibuprofen before a run if I am feeling really sore. But, drink lots of water, stretch it out, and make sure you do a warm up and cool down before exercising. If I run I have to walk around for several minutes to let my body to recover. And, I don't know if it's just me but, I love the feeling of icy hot packs.

Stretch out before you workout and continue working out. When I was sore I realized that working out and warming up my muscles helped ease the soreness!

For muscle sore I say dont rest it out. The next day after resting, it will not feel any better. You should workout as best as the soreness allows you to and stretch. Don't forget to stretch after any workout. You should feel better sooner.
  • Thanks for the advice everyone!! The soreness is in my stomach - it hurts to breathe! The soreness rests right where below my ribs right in the middle - it came from doing an hour of pilates - How long will it take before it goes away? When will my body get used to this movement before it doesnt get this sore??
